BEAUMONT, Texas – After opening the season with five straight games away from the comforts of home, the Lamar University women’s soccer team finally gets to play host this week, as the Lady Cardinals entertain Prairie View A&M at 7 p.m. Friday and Houston Baptist at 1 p.m. Sunday.

“We’re excited to finally have some home games,” Lamar coach Orlando Cervantes said. “We’re familiar with the field, and we’re looking forward to playing in front of our fans.”

The Lady Cardinals (1-4) dropped a pair of games at the UTSA Classic last week, falling to Kent State 3-0 and Eastern Michigan 3-1.

“We’ve had a good week of practice,” Cervantes said. “I see us gelling. We’ve struggled with trying new things, but things are coming together.”

Kristin Bos and Taylor Mitchell lead the Lady Cardinals with two goals apiece. Bos has team highs of 27 shots and 15 shots on goal. Freshman goalkeepers Bailey Fontenot and Elizabeth Silas each have a 2.40 goals-against average.

Prairie View A&M (1-4) comes in to Friday’s game riding high off a 5-0 win over Texas College, an NAIA school. The Lady Panthers, who were shut out in their first four games, are led by Ariana Roundtree with two goals. Angie Guillory, who played one season for Lamar, has a team-high 10 shots for Prairie View. Lamar leads the all-time series 2-0.

Houston Baptist is 2-3-1 heading into a Friday contest at Northwestern State. Natalie Hager leads the Huskies with three goals. Goalkeeper Shelby Horn has a 0.96 goals-against average. Houston Baptist leads the all-time series with Lamar 1-0-1.
