Lamar pounds Prairie View A&M
BEAUMONT, Texas – Kristin Bos scored two goals to lead the Lamar University women’s soccer team to a 5-1 victory over Prairie View A&M in the home opener for the Lady Cardinals on Friday night.
Kimmy Albeno, Laura Hicks and Amber Thornhill also scored for the Lady Cardinals (2-4-0). Bailey Fontenot made four saves to pick up the win for Lamar.
“Kristin Bos had a tremendous game for us,” Lamar coach Orlando Cervantes said. “Overall, I was very pleased with the way we played tonight.”
Bos opened the scoring 15:43 into the contest before making it 2-0 less than five minutes later. Albeno increased the Lamar margin to 3-0 at the 28:35 mark before former Lamar player Angie Guillory put the Lady Panthers (1-5) on the board with 7:59 remaining in the first half to cut the Lamar lead to 3-1 at intermission.
Hicks pushed the Lamar lead back up to three just 17 seconds into the second half before Thornhill closed out the scoring with 18:21 remaining in the game.
Bianca Garza made 11 saves for Prairie View.
“Prairie View had some good chances tonight. That’s one thing we have to work on,” Cervantes said. “We just have to keep getting better.”
