BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University women’s soccer team opens a stretch of three games in five days over two time zones Wednesday when it hosts Alcorn State at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The Lady Cardinals fly out the next morning to California, where they will play UC Davis and UC Riverside in the UC Riverside Tournament on Friday and Sunday.

Wednesday’s game against Alcorn State was just added to the schedule this week.

“We needed another game, and fortunately, we were able to get Alcorn State to agree to play us,” Lamar coach Orlando Cervantes said. “I hope we can get fans out to support us.”

The first-year Lamar coach, a native of California, is looking forward to getting back to his home state for two games.

“We’re going to play two good teams, which should help us get ready for conference play,” Cervantes said. “We also want to recruit in California, so it gives us some exposure.”

Lamar (3-4-1) is 2-0-1 at home this season. The Lady Cardinals enter Wednesday’s game off of Friday’s 4-0 win over Texas Southern.

Kristin Bos leads Lamar with 14 points on six goals and two assists, while Kimmy Albeno is second with 11 points on four goals and three assists.

“We’re coming together right now,” Cervantes said. “I’m seeing plenty of good things from this team.”
