Nov. 1, 2011

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State has a chance to leave the Western Athletic Conference as champions. The Bulldogs host the 2011 WAC Soccer Tournament this weekend (Nov. 3, 4, and 6) on their new Soccer and Lacrosse Field. After tying top team Utah State in the regular season finale, the 'Dogs secured a second place seed in the tourney and a first round bye. Fresno State begins defending its 2010 tournament title on Nov. 4 at 2:30 p.m.

Fresno State Conference Play
The Bulldogs went 4-1-2 in conference play to earn a No. 2 seeding in the Western Athletic Conference Tournament. The seed gives Fresno State a first round bye, the fourth in program history. Last time the 'Dogs earned a bye they went on to win the tournament title (2008) as the No. 2 seed.

Potential Opponents
Fresno State will meet the winner of match 2 between Hawai'i and New Mexico State. The Bulldogs fell to Hawai'i 3-0 (Oct. 14) on the road and tied New Mexico State 2-2 (Oct. 23) at home during the regular season. All-time the 'Dogs are 8-8-2 against Hawai'i and 0-2-1 against New Mexico State.

Never Skipped a Dance
Fresno State has never missed a WAC Tournament.

Two-Timer
This is the second time in the tournament's 16-year history that Fresno State has hosted. The Bulldogs went 1-1 in 2000 as the six seed, falling to Tulsa (2-1) in double overtime in the semifinals.

Performance Summary
The Bulldogs have been to six championship matchs and advanced to the NCAA tournament three times. Their average seeding over the years has been a four with four first round byes in their history.

Zwaschka and the WAC Tournament
Bulldog Head Coach Brian Zwaschka is 2-1-1 at the post season tournament with one championship title since taking over the helm of the program. The 'Dogs were seeded sixth twice before this year.

Tournament Honors
Fresno State has received 36 individual tournament honors in its history. During Zwaschka's tenure, there has been an MVP (Katie Lee, 2010) and four All-Tournament team members: Lee, Vanessa Gonzalez, Lauren Lindstrom and Kendall VanDine, all in 2010.

WAC Weekly Honors Record
With senior Laura Dodd earning WAC offensive player of the week honors (Oct. 31), the 'Dogs set a program record for weekly conference honors earned in a single season (7). The previous record (6) was set in 2006. This year also marks the most offensive weekly honors earned (4) in a single season.
