BALTIMORE – UMBC women’s soccer used a pair of goals over the final 3:25, including the game-winner with 1:00 to go from freshman forward Amanda Dailey (Howell, N.J./Freehold Township, Monmouth), to complete a 2-1 come-from-behind victory against Hartford in Thursday night’s Pink Game at Retriever Soccer Park.

UMBC (10-5-2, 5-2-0 AE) hits double-digit wins for the first time since 2001 and reaches five victories for the first time since joining the league in 2003. With one game remaining in the regular season, UMBC has a chance to clinch a first round bye with a victory on Sunday, marking its highest America East finish ever. With a bye on Sunday, Hartford concludes the regular season with a 10-5-3 overall record and 5-3-0 in conference play.

With the game scoreless after 82 minutes of action the game looked destined for overtime, but it was the league’s top point getter in America East play Chanel Johnson that connected on a shot from a tough wide right angle to put Hartford out in front 1-0.

The Retrievers kept the pressure on and it paid off on a corner kick from junior back Melissa Hummel (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East), that red-shirt junior Jessy Brown (Plantation, Fla./American Heritage) headed in for her sixth goal of the season to knot the game at one with 3:25 remaining.

Just 2:25 later, Dailey struck, gathering a cross from junior back Morgan Taylor (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) and taping in the game-winner.

Senior goalkeeper Lauren Kadet (Oakville, Ontario/St. Thomas) finished with four saves in the contest, while reigning America East Rookie of the Week Jessica Jurg registered three.

Both teams had their opportunities in the opening half, with the Johnson finding herself a step in front of the defense, but Kadet knocked down her shot to keep the game scoreless 12:23 into the contest.

The Hawks had two more close calls, the first coming on a scrum in front of the net, but Kadet was able to get a hand on the ball and sophomore back Nikki Boretti (Crofton, Md./Archbishop Spalding) took care of the clear. A free kick ball by freshman back Katie Connolly tipped off the head of graduate back Amanda Hamilton and landed in front of an open junior midfielder Morgan Berry.

UMBC concludes the regular season with Senior Day on Sunday, Oct. 27 when it plays host to New Hampshire. Game time is set for 1 p.m. at Retriever Soccer Park, with seniors Stephanie Smith (Severna Park, Md./Archbishop Spalding) and Lauren Kadet (Oakville, Ontario./St. Thomas Aquinas) being honored prior to first kick.

Game Notes
-UMBC will make its third appearance in the America East Championship, with its seeding still to be determined. Its other two appearances came in 2003 and 2005.
