BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh men’s soccer put together another well-rounded performance with plenty of offense to spare as they take care of business at home in a 3-1 win over Seton Hall on Tuesday evening.

Three different Mountain Hawks tallied goals and four different recorded points, including Doyle Tuvesson who tallied the game winning goal in the 32nd minute. Lehigh (4-2-0) totaled 13 shots on the night with seven on goal, while the LU defensive unit limited the Pirates (3-5-1) to just seven total shots and just three on goal.

“We had great contributions from guys off the bench and some new guys in the lineup to go along with strong performances from our top guys. Seeing guys step in and make big contributions really does a lot for our confidence collectively,” said Koski. “Jonathan Blaine did a really nice job stepping in to the lineup, especially for a freshman. Getting the third goal from Tommy [Dokho] was huge for us too. He saw limited time tonight, but his goal really helped us seal the win.”

Lehigh supplied the pressure early and got on the board in the 11th minute when Oscar Greene cleaned up a rebound on the trail end of the rush. Mark Forrest started the play when he beat his defenders in the left slot and slipped a shot low past the keeper. Forrest’s shot hit the left post and kicked out to the middle where Greene was waiting to collect the loose ball and send it into the open net for his first tally of the season.

The Mountain Hawks remained on the hunt for more and were rewarded for their effort later in the first half when they turned to their big guns Forrest and Tuvesson. Forrest drew the attention of a few defenders as he crossed midfield and fed a nice ball to Tuvesson which sprung him free on a breakaway. In a one-on-one with the keeper, Tuvesson ripped a shot from the left slot to the back of the twine, which held up as the eventual game winner.

The Lehigh defensive unit, led by Matt Morana, Zarin Tuten and David Zipkin stifled the Seton Hall offensive effort throughout the first half, limiting the Pirates to just three total shots and just one shot on goal. Seton hall’s lone shot on goal occurred in the 44th minute when Corey Burkhardt had the first quality chance of the game. He put a solid strike on frame through traffic, but Will Smith was up to the challenge as he snared Burkhardt’s tailing strike.

The Pirates managed to break through midway through the second half with a quality header by Gabriel Viola from the close left slot after receiving a lofted cross from Noah Teperow.

Lehigh did not take long to respond after Seton Hall’s 67th minute tally. Quality passing again in the final third led to another Lehigh goal as Tuvesson dished off to Tommy Dokho well inside the 18-yard line for the final tally of the game. Dokho’s shot caught the inside of the left post and deflected across the end line for his first goal of the season.

The Mountain Hawks remained on the attack even after taking the two-goal lead late in the game. They put three more shots on goal down stretch, including a quality header by Tuten on a set piece following a corner that was saved on the end line by one of the Seton Hall defenders.

Riding a three-game winning streak with an 8-2 goal differential during the last three games, Lehigh is flying high heading into its Patriot League opener against Army West Point.

“Both teams will enter the matchup with appropriate confidence as we have both achieved good results as of late. We are going to face the best team in the league right now in my opinion. They are going to come in with a lot of confidence, hopefully we bring a lot of confidence too and the best team will win,” said Koski.

The Black Knights and Mountain Hawks are set to do battle Saturday night at the Ulrich Sports Complex. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
