FORT MYERS, Fla. – A long storm through Southwest Florida brought the FGCU men’s soccer team’s match against No. 21 Furman to a halt in the 48th minute and didn’t allow it to restart as the game was eventually cancelled. The match will not be made up and no results will be turned in due to a full 70 minutes not being completed.

The Paladins owned a 1-0 lead after a goal in the fourth minute when the game was called. The teams and officials waited out the 90-minute time period to re-start the game, but the storm stayed in the area.

The game was the finale of the Courtyard by Marriott Classic hosted by FGCU. The Classic started on Friday when Furman defeaed FIU, 2-1, while the Green and Blue’s first-ever three-game non-conference win streak was snapped by VCU.

FGCU will have five days off from game action before it finishes its three-game homestand on Saturday, Sept. 22 when it hosts UCF at 7 p.m. The rematch of last year’s NCAA Tournament showdown will be a “Blue Out” at the FGCU Soccer Complex. Fans who wear blue in support of the Eagles can purchase a ticket at half price.

Along with updates on twitter @FGCUMensSoccer and @FGCUEagles, fans can also get men’s soccer updates from around the Atlantic Sun and the nation by using the hashtag #ASUNMSOC or #D1MSOC.
