FARMVILLE, a. -- Senior Kelsey Pardue/Richmond, junior Samantha Phillips/Chesapeake and sophomore Olivia Colella/Herndon each scored first-half goals to lead Longwood University to a 3-1 Big South Conference women’s soccer victory against visiting Charleston Southern University on Saturday afternoon at the Athletics Complex in Farmville.  Freshmen Gina D’Orazio/Moseley and Amanda Spencer/Gibsonia, Pennsylvania each contributed an assist for the Lancers (8-6-2, 7-1 Big South), who won their fourth-straight match, while graduate student and goalkeeper Shelby Hall/Purcellville made four saves against the Buccaneers (6-9-1, 3-5 Big South), who received a goal from Allison Lewis.  Longwood remains home to welcome Big South opponent Campbell University on Wednesday night, October 23 at 7 p.m. at the Athletics Complex in Farmville … designated for the Play4theCure cancer awareness campaign by the National Foundation for Cancer Research.
    
“The big positive in this game is that we went down a goal and then responded immediately, and with a flurry,” said 20th-year head coach Todd Dyer ‘93.  “After that, the flow of the game was pretty slow but we got the result we needed.  We were also able to create a lot of chances throughout, but we still want to be sharper with our possession and movement off of the ball.  In the end, it was a great way to close our Wounded Warrior Weekend.”
    
Charleston Southern took an early 1-0 advantage against Longwood when Lewis beat a defender and was successful on her shot to the lower right corner of the net at 6:36.  The early goal by the Buccaneers seemed to provide the Lancers with a sense of urgency, as Phillips answered with a goal at 10:28, unassisted, on a blast from the top of the box to the upper 90 to make it 1-1.  Pardue scored what proved to be the game-winner, the 12th of her career, at 12:55 with an assist from Spencer on a pretty give-and-go play in the box completed with another shot past the keeper.  Colella finished the three-goal outburst in less than 15 minutes when she deflected a cross into the box from the left side by D’Orazio and was good on her attempt to the right side of the net.  The 3-1 lead at the intermission stood for the rest of the way, though the hosts maintained a significant shot advantage over the final 45 minutes, as well.
    
Longwood had a 24-6 advantage in shots for the match, including 15-5 in attempts on goal, and it was 7-1 on corner kicks for the Lancers.  Pardue had five shots, three on goal, while Phillips, Spencer and freshman Christian Corbin/Glen Allen each had three shots.  Hall played the duration in front of the net with the four saves.
    
Lewis had three shots, each on goal, for CSU, while Dana McLaughlin played the first half in front of the net with six saves and three goals allowed for the Buccaneers.  Caitlin Cody played the second half in goal for CSU with six saves and no goals allowed.  The Buccaneers will play at High Point on Oct. 23 at 7 p.m.
    
Longwood and Charleston Southern were meeting for the 10th time in the sport of women’s soccer, and the Lancers have now won two-straight against the Buccaneers to lead the series, 6-4.
    
The CSU match concluded the Wounded Warrior Weekend at Longwood that also featured the LW3 Benefit Soccer Game on Oct. 18 and a Memorial 5K Walk/Run earlier Saturday.  The Longwood ROTC program presented the colors before the game and there was a very special halftime recognition of the honored wounded warriors and their respective families in attendance at today’s contest.
