PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Shyanne Kimbrough scored on a penalty kick goal in the 10th minute of the match to lead Drexel University of the Colonial Athletic Association to a 1-0 women’s soccer victory past visiting Longwood University on Sunday afternoon in Philadelphia.  Eve Badana had three saves while posting the shutout the host Dragons (3-2-1) against the Lancers (0-3-2), who received five saves from graduate goalkeeper Shelby Hall/Purcellville.  Longwood will play Elon University of the Southern Conference during the UNCW Courtyard Marriott Wilmington Invitational on Friday, September 13 at 5 p.m. in Wilmington, North Carolina.
    
Drexel scored the only goal of the contest at 9:57 when Longwood was called for a foul in the box that allowed Kimbrough the successful PK attempt.  The Dragons had a 6-1 advantage in shots at the intermission before the Lancers got things going offensively in the second half.  The visitors took six shots during the final 45 minutes, though only two were on goal and saved by Badana.  Freshman Amanda Spencer/Gibsonia, Pennsylvania had the first scoring opportunity in the 65th minute, and junior Taylor Cave/Virginia Beach had a chance in the final minute for the visitors.
    
“We lost 1-0 on the road to a strong CAA team and the difference in the game was a PK,” said 20th-year head coach Todd Dyer ‘93.  “I love the way our schedule challenges us this year and it will serve us well as we get into our conference schedule.  We are getting stronger and its only a matter of time before everything comes together for this group.”
    
Drexel had a 12-7 advantage in shots, including 6-3 in attempts on goal, though Longwood had a 4-2 edge on corner kicks.  In addition to Spencer and Cave, freshman Jayden Metzger/Midlothian also had a shot on goal for the Lancers.  Hall played the duration in front of the net, making four of her five saves during the first 45 minutes.
    
Drexel was led by Christine Stevenson with five shots, three on target, and Kimbrough had three shots, two on target.  Badana played the duration for the Dragons with two of her three saves after the break.
    
Longwood and Drexel were playing for the second time in the sport of women's soccer, and the series is now tied at 1-1.
