WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Glenn Leitch redirected a Jamie Darvill free kick into the goal in the 81st minute for Loyola (MD), tying the match at 1-1, but William & Mary countered minutes later to post a 2-1 non-conference victory Wednesday night at Albert-Daly Field.

Leitch dove a headed the ball into the left corner of the net for his team-leading third goal of the season after Darvill struck a well-placed free kick.

The score at 81:43 tied the match at 1-1, but William & Mary (6-2-0) thwarted the Loyola (3-5-1) comeback attempt.

A Greyhound foul gave the Tribe a penalty kick at 85:49, and Andrew Hoxie converted for his second goal of the game to provide the final margain.

After the penalty kick goal, Loyola had several more chances, but the Greyhound could not cash in.

Loyola attempted four corner kicks after the Hoxie's goal, and Wade McHugh struck a shot that was saved by Tribe goalkeeper Andrew McAdams with just over three minutes to play.

William & Mary finished with a 34-6 shot advantage, 11-6 in corner kicks.

Greyhounds goalkeeper Kyle Wittman kept the score close, however, making a career-high 12 saves.

Hoxie put the Tribe on the board in the first half. After Nathaniel Baako had a shot get past Wittman that was saved by a Loyola defender, the Tribe set up its first goal.

Roger Bothe crossed the ball to the right side of the 18-yard box, and Hoxie's volley to the center of the goal went just past the grasp of Wittman.

Loyola takes the weekend off before returning to Diane Geppi-Aikens Field on Tuesday, October 6, when it hosts the U.S. Naval Academy at 5 p.m.
