Loyola men lose to UIC

October 26, 2009
CHICAGO (Oct. 24, 2009) – The Loyola-Chicago men’s soccer team dropped a double overtime heartbreaker to UIC, 2-1, on Saturday night (Oct. 24) at Loyola Soccer Park. UIC’s Kevin Stoll scored in the
109th minute to push the Flames past the Ramblers in the second overtime frame.

Loyola falls to 3-7-4 overall and 0-4-2 in Horizon League play with the
loss, while UIC moves to 6-4-5 overall and 3-1-1 in league play with the
win.

The Ramblers struck first in the match, tallying in the 48th minute on a
highlight reel goal by senior Alex Jones. UIC attempted to clear the
ball out of its own goal area, but Jones took the ball on a nice bounce,
sending a bicycle kick to the top-right corner of the net for the score.

A foul inside Loyola’s goal area by goalkeeper Peter McKeown in the 86th
minute set up a penalty kick for UIC’s Ivan Stanisavljevic, who sent it
past McKeown to draw the teams even at one.

The teams battled through a back-and-forth first overtime period and
eight minutes of the second extra frame before Stoll netted the
game-winning goal. Charlie Trout took the ball up the right side of the
field, sending a cross inside the goal area to Stoll, who sent a
bouncing ball to the back of the net to end the match.

The Ramblers head to Detroit next Saturday (Oct. 31), taking on the
Titans at 11 a.m. CT.
