NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A goal in the 16^th minute of play from freshman forward Ellen Lundy was not enough Monday night as the Lipscomb women’s soccer team fell 2-1 on a late charge from Austin Peay at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex.

Lundy, who was named the Atlantic Sun Player of the Week earlier Monday, tied the school record for goals in a season with six, originally set by Meghan McGuire in the 2011. 

Junior midfielder Brittany Rupple set Lundy up for the goal by firing a shot from 30 yards out that glanced off Lady Gov goalkeeper Nikki Filippone then off the left post and to the feet of Lundy who then buried the shot for the Lady Bisons (2-3-1) lead. 

Playing strong soccer for most of the first half, the Lady Govs began to increase their pace towards the end. 

“We had one of our better spells of soccer that we have had this season,” Lipscomb head coach Kevin O’Brien said. “It was excellent. We scored a great goal. The possession looked good, we looked sharp and we moved the ball. Towards the end of the half, Austin Peay picked it up and we lost a bit of that edge that we had.” 

The Lady Govs (4-0-1) took advantage in the second half scoring two goals in a nine-minute span. Andy Quiceno fired a shot from the right side of the box landed in the left net in the 63^rd minute to tie the game. 

Gina Fabbro gave APSU the game winner in the 72^nd minute knocking in a shot from the six yard box. Tatiana Ariza flipped the ball in front of the net where Fabbro was able to slide the ball under a diving Anna Buhigas for the goal. 

Buhigas tallied eight saves after facing 18 shots, ten of which were on frame. 

“The second half, I see why they are undefeated,” O’Brien said. “They had a resolve and a drive that was pretty impressive. I’ve got to tip my hat to Austin Peay.” 

After controlling most of the first half, O’Brien was hoping for a better result in the second half. 

“I’m disappointed with our players,” O’Brien said. “I don’t think they dug in, stuck together and preserved the result like they could have. When you go into a second half with a lead it just takes that kind of champion’s effort to see it through.”

The Lady Bisons have the chance to show that effort Friday night hosting Central Arkansas at 7 p.m.
