MacAdam Leads Navy Past Bucknell, 3-0

October 10, 2014

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Freshman forward Clare MacAdam (Palmyra, N.J.) recorded two goals and led the Navy women’s soccer past Bucknell, 3-0 Friday at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility. Navy extended its unbeaten streak to five straight games and improved to 3-1-1 in Patriot League play while Bucknell fell to 2-2-1 in league play.

“We are attacking the ball a lot better inside the box, we are servicing the ball better during our scoring opportunities and so with more players forward we have been able to score a lot easier than earlier on in the year,” Navy head coach Carin Gabarra said.

Navy (7-3-4, 3-1-1 PL) converted on three of its six shots on goal and held Bucknell (7-6-2, 2-2-1 PL) to 0-for-3 on its shots on net. The Mids held the advantage in shots, 12-6, while the Bison had a slight edge in corner kicks, 4-3. Navy goalkeepers Dayton Wetherby (So., Wesley Chapel, Fla.) and Taygan Grundy (Fr., Fremont, Calif.) recorded a combined shutout, denying all three shots on net. Bucknell goalie Jessica Ratner tallied three saves on six chances in the loss.

Navy put pressure early on Bucknell and produced the first goal of the game for an early 1-0 lead in the 16th minute. Senior forward Caprice Kelty (Odenton, Md.) forced a turnover inside Bucknell’s defensive third and created Navy’s first scoring opportunity. Kelty looked ahead and passed inside the 18 to MacAdam, who took two dribbles and beat Ratner to the far post.

MacAdam was not done as she tallied her second goal of the contest in the 55th minute to give Navy the 2-0 lead. Following a service to the top of the 18, senior midfielder Rachel Hunter (Raliegh, N.C.) grabbed possession of the ball and chipped it forward for MacAdam, as she took one touch and blasted her fifth goal of the season to the upper 90 of the net.

“We rely on our two center forwards to attack and Clare can strike the ball very well with both feet and it is hard to stop her,” Gabarra said on MacAdam’s two-goal performance.

With a 2-0 lead, sophomore midfielder Rachel Feldman (Danville, Calif.) added an insurance goal with a strike from 25 yards out in the 78th minute. Feldman’s goal in the 78th minute was her first collegiate goal.

Navy continued to play well at home, outscoring its opponent 14-1 in the last four contests. Overall, Navy has not lost a match at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility, owning a 5-0-2 record this season.

Navy will finish its nonconference slate against Penn on Sunday (1 PM) at Rhodes Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The match can be seen live for $9.95 on the Penn Sports Network. Live statistics will be available on navysports.com (.)
