Marist Continues Home Stand Against NJIT

September 5, 2015

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist men’s soccer team will play the second of four matches on its home stand at 7 p.m. Sept. 5 when it faces NJIT. The contest will be streamed live on the Red Fox Network. The last three meetings between the two teams have resulted in shutouts, with the Red Foxes coming out on top in 2011 and 2012.

Early Going

The Red Foxes are 1-1 in 2015 following an overtime win at Saint Joseph’s on Aug. 28 and a defeat to New Hampshire two days later in Tenney Stadium. Senior Bryant Coyt handled a pass off a missed penalty kick and knocked the ball into the net to give Marist a 3-2 win in Philadelphia to open the season. Marist also got a score from an upperclassman against the Wildcats, as senior Connor Preece converted on a penalty kick in a 3-1 loss.

Player To Watch

Freshman Cameron Harr netted his first career goal in final minute of the first half, getting the equalizer against Saint Joseph’s. He has a team-high seven shots, including three on goal, in his first two games wearing red and white.

Scouting NJIT

The Highlanders have yet to play at home this season and have lost a pair of close contests. They tied their season opener late in the first half, but ended up falling to St. Bonaventure, 2-1, at the tail end of overtime. NJIT also dropped a 1-0 contest to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference squad Canisius on Aug. 30.

Junior Christian Foust has made five saves in net, while sophomore Mamdou Guirassy has scored a goal and is second on the Highlanders with five shots.

Looking Ahead

Marist concludes its longest home stand of the season with a pair of non-conference contests. The Red Foxes will face off against Columbia under the Tenney Stadium lights at 7 p.m. Tuesday and host Binghamton in another night game at 7 p.m. Sept. 12.
