CHICAGO – On a night meant to honor its seniors, Loyola men’s soccer team paid tribute to the graduating class with a 1-0 double overtime triumph over Detroit and improve to 3-9-1 overall on the season.

Loyola was hungry for the win as the team fought hard for a goal and control over the match. In the end, the Ramblers dominated on offense and finished with a strong 15-6 advantage in shots and came away with their first Horizon League victory of the year.

After the team strung together 12 shots in regulation and two more in extra time, freshman Brian Bement came up with the winning goal halfway through the second overtime period to capitalize on a game-long scoring effort. Alex Wynne started the offensive push for Loyola in the 105th minute, sending a pass up the field to Kyle Spoo who attacked the net and at the last minute scooted the ball over to Bement waiting in the wing, for the easy open-net goal.

Bement, along with junior Eric Nock, led the Ramblers on offense, finishing with four total shots and two shots on goal. Spoo added two shots, one on goal to the team collective, while senior Erik Warren also finished with two shots.

Peter McKeown improved to 2-6-1 after starting in between the posts and finishing with one save to secure the shutout.

The team will travel up the road to meet Northwestern for a weekday contest on Oct. 19, beginning at 7:00 p.m. CST.
