Men’s Soccer Dealt 1-0 Shutout In NCAA Tournament
WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Making its fourth NCAA berth in five seasons, third-seed Colorado School of Mines men's soccer was eliminated 1-0 Sunday afternoon by NSCAA No. 7 Midwestern State in the second round of the NCAA Division II Championships.
On its own turf, the MSU Soccer Field, Midwestern State earned the advantage early when Andrew Power scored a deflection off of a corner attempt 8:25 into the bout.
The lone goal proved sufficient for the Mustangs (12-3-2) who extended their unbeaten streak to 13 straight with their sixth win in seven games.
MSU limited Mines (11-7-1) to only four shots on target in 13 attempts, one each by seniors Tesho Akindele and Baski Baker, junior Kaleb Weston and sophomore Joe Haines.
The win was the second against the Orediggers in the NCAA Tournament. The Mustangs defeated Mines 3-1 in the second round in Wichita Falls in 2010.
In addition to Akindele and Baker, the match was the last in the Silver-and-Blue for seniors Colin Baker, Giuseppe Pasqualino and Seun Ogunmodede as well as red-shirt senior Alex Gunberg.
