Men’s Soccer Downed at Quinnipiac

March 26, 2021

Siena Men's Soccer (1-2, 1-2) could not keep up with early offense that allowed MAAC rival Quinnipiac (3-0, 3-0) to pull away in Hamden, Connecticut Thursday afternoon. The Saints fell, 4-1, to the Bobcats, with the match marking the homecoming of former QU player and assistant coach Graciano Brito.

The Saints found themselves down in just the second minute of the game, with Quinnipiac's Tomas Svecula scoring to put the home team up out of the gate. Domen Bozic netted an insurance goal for the Bobcats just over six minutes later that allowed the home team to pull away offensively throughout the duration of the game.

After out-shooting Siena 11-2 in the first half of action, Quinnipiac would find the net twice more in the second half, with Luke Allen and David Bercedo scoring in the 55th and 78th minutes, respectively. Siena redshirt-sophomore Antonio Linge found the back of the net for the second time in his career in the 88th minute of play, putting the Saints on the board via a penalty kick goal.

Quinnipiac held a 19-9 advantage in shots throughout the course of the match, while drawing six corner kicks to Siena's lone opportunity. Sophomore midfielder Antonio La Gamba led the Saints offensively with three shots attempted, while junior goalkeeper Greg Monroe made three saves while spending the duration of the match in-between-the-pipes.

The Green and Gold will have a quick turnaround, with home action resuming this weekend at Hickey Field. The Saints will play host to MAAC foe Monmouth on Sunday, with kickoff set for 4 PM on ESPN3.
