Men's Soccer Falls to Army, 2-1

On the evening of October 26, the men's soccer team headed upstate to take on the Black Knights of the West Point Military Academy. Domenico Parrelli put the Panthers out front in the opening half, but Army fired back with two goals of their own to grab the victory. With the loss, Adelphi slips to 6-8-1 while the Black Knights move to 7-9.

The first half set the stage for an extremely physical affair as combine 17 fouls were charged to both teams, ten of which belonged to the Brown and Gold. The physicality of the game got Army in trouble as a foul inside the box put Parrelli on the line for a penalty shot in the 29th minute. The Brooklyn, New York native did not let the opportunity go by and capitalized as he hit his mark to find the back of the net, giving his team a 1-0 advantage.

Army's Trent Brown struck back with the equalizer in the 70th minute when he headed in a free kick pass from teammate Michael Kim to level the playing field at one apiece. Less than 12 minutes later, Elliot McGilbra sent a pass to Kyle Golonski who positioned himself from 17 yards out and notched Army's eventual game winning goal.

While Army tallied 13 shots, the Panthers posted nine, on the evening with Brandon Stoneham and Omar Edwards recording the only other shots on goal. Adelphi bested Army in corners 5-3 while senior keeper Kyle Blackmer made three saves on the night.

The Panthers return to action on Saturday, October 29 when they close out their three game road schedule with a game against NJIT in Newark, New Jersey. The game is slated for a 7pm start and will also mark the final Atlantic Soccer Conference game of the 2011 season.
