MEN’S SOCCER RUNS UNBEATEN STREAK TO FOUR WITH 3-1 WIN OVER CLIPPERS

October 13, 2011

BEAR, DE -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University ran their unbeaten streak to four with a 3-1 victory over the visiting Clippers of Concordia College in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) men’s soccer action on Saturday evening at Bob People’s Stadium.

Wilmington (5-1-2 CACC/6-4-4) got on the board during the 30th minute as sophomore Tom Quaranta finished a through pass from classmate Eddie Kowalo. The Wildcats would hold the 1-0 lead through halftime, and did not wait long to add on once the second half began. Just four minutes in, Kowalo connected on a pass from sophomore Manny Payton to make it 2-0 in favor of the ‘Cats. Less than four minutes later, it was 3-0 Wilmington, when Quaranta struck again, this time off a free kick from junior Kresimir Nurnberger. Concordia (2-4 CACC/2-9) added an unassisted goal by Daniel Espinoza during the 62nd minute, but that would be all the offense the Clippers could muster up as the Wildcats held on for the victory.

Spyros Stergiotis made three saves in goal for Wilmington, while Paul Wavell turned away nine shots for Concordia. The Wildcats out-shot the Clippers by a 20-9 margin, and held a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Wilmington wore special pink uniforms for the game, as the ‘Cats participated in their annual “Score for a Cure” Breast Cancer Awareness Game.

The Wildcats return to the pitch on Wednesday evening, when they travel to take on the Golden Lions of Dowling College in a non-conference contest beginning at 6:00 PM.
