Men’s Soccer: ACU Goes 0-3 on Northern California Road Trip

Vallejo, Calif. – Arizona Christian University remained winless for the season (0-11-1) after losing all three of its matches during its northern California road trip.  After losing at Pacific Union College, 2-1, and Simpson University, 4-0, the Firestorm concludes its trip with a 3-1 loss at California State University-Maritime (4-4-0) at Dan Foley Park in Vallejo, Saturday, Oct. 15.

With four matches left on its 2011 schedule, the Firestorm takes on Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in an Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) conference match, Tuesday, Oct. 18, at the Rose Mofford Sports Complex in Phoenix at 7 p.m., and travels to the Home Depot Center in Carson, California for an A.I.I. match against Marymount College of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., Friday, Oct. 21, at 5 p.m.

 

All of the scoring for both sides in the Cal-Maritime match took place in the second half.  Midfielder Daniel Millward scored the first goal, and midfielder Patrick Wehan scored the next two for the Keelhaulers for a 3-0 lead.  Junior Sidney Jones (La Ceiba, Honduras/Gatlinburg-Pitman H.S (Tenn.), who played the entire match in goal, also scored ACU’s only goal on a second-half penalty kick, his third goal of the season.

 

Jones saved three CSUM shots on goal, and Kyle Carpenter and Wil Akers split the time in the home team’s net and totaled four saves, two in each half.  CSUM outshot ACU, 16-10, and edged the Firestorm, 6-5, in shots on goal and 6-3 in corner kicks.
