Men’s Soccer: Marymount (Calif.) Stops Arizona Christian, 5-0

Carson, Calif. –  Sophomore forward Viktor Ahlgren scored three of the first four Marymount goals and assisted on the other as Marymount College of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif. scored a 5-0 victory over Arizona Christian University in Friday, October 21 collegiate men’s soccer action in the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.

 

Marymount, now 5-10-0 overall and 4-2 in Association of Intercollegiate Institutions (A.I.I.) competition, narrowly outshot ACU, 20-14, and led 10-6 in shots on goal and 9-1 in corner kicks.  ACU fell to 0-13-1 overall and 0-5-1 in A.I.I. matches and suffered its eighth shutout loss this season.

 

For its final two matches of the season, the Firestorm hosts Westminster College from Salt Lake City, Utah, Friday, Oct. 28, at the Reach 11 Soccer Complex, at 6 p.m. and Marymount College, Saturday, October 29, at 7 p.m., for Senior Night at Scottsdale Christian Academy (14400 North Tatum Blvd., Phoenix), with the ACU women’s soccer team playing Marymount at 5 p.m.

 

Ahlgren, from Sweden, scored Marymount’s first two goals, unassisted at 12:38 and off an assist by Emil Pettersson at 18:29, assisted on a goal by Rimar Daisley-West at 26:57, and completed the hat trick off an assist by Jim Eriksson at 27:33, and led 4-0 at halftime.  Ahlgren and Daisley-West each attempted five shots in the match.

 

ACU’s starting goalkeeper Sidney Jones (La Ceiba, Honduras/Gatlinburg-Pitman H.S., Tenn.) faced 14 shot, six on goal, made two saves, and allowed all four goals in the first 45 minutes and was replaced in the second half by junior Tyler Cotton (Peoria, Ariz./Sunrise Mountain H.S./Mesa CC) who saved three shots on goal and allowed Marymount’s fifth goal of the match at 72:41, when forward Tony Gonzalez found the back of the net with the assist credited to midfielder Rudy Sanchez.
