A senior forward leading a historic upset leads the latest men’s college soccer team of the week.

It was always going to take a special performance to drop the defending champions, who had not lost all season. That is exactly what Laurie Goddard did by recording one assist and scoring an overtime winner to shock the Catamounts. This dramatic win came just a few days after he led a first-round defeat of Syracuse with the identical output of one goal and one assist.

Player of the Week: Laurie Goddard, Hofstra(m)

Men’s Team of the Week: November 17-November 23

GK: Daniel Ibarra, Grand Canyon(m) – Ibarra was incredible throughout the week, making 12 saves, stopping another in a penalty shootout, and conceding just once as Grand Canyon upset UCLA and San Diego to reach the Sweet Sixteen for the first time in program history.

D: Alfonso Tenconi-Gradillas, Stanford(m) – The redshirt junior was excellent versus Kansas City, playing the full 90 minutes and scoring the lone goal in the 1-0 win.

D: Matthew Paiva, Akron(m) - Another defender to pop up on the score sheet, Paiva scored in the 88th minute as Akron outlasted Notre Dame 1-0.

D: Riley Moloney, NC State(m) – The freshman star assisted once and scored directly from a corner kick as NC State knocked Marshall out 2-0.

M: Issah Haruna, UNC Greensboro(m) – Haruna played 100 minutes in the shootout victory over Elon, then played another 100 minutes and contributed one goal and one assist in the upset over Virginia.

M: Jack DiMaria, Saint Louis(m) - In one of the best clutch performances of the season, DiMaria equalized in the 86th minute, then managed the game-winner in overtime as the Billikens knocked out a plucky Kentucky team. The Missouri native then played every minute in a 1-0 upset of Indiana. 

M: Kenan Hot, Duke(m) – Hot was vital for Duke, playing every available minute, opening with a tense 1-0 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson, and then scoring a late equalizer in the 2-1 win over Princeton.

M: Laurie Goddard, Hofstra(m) - Led by Goddard, the Pride were able to defeat the reigning national champion on the road.

F: Mitchell Baker, Georgetown(m) - Baker continued his unstoppable form, scoring both goals to defeat UCF 2-0 in the second round. 

F: Austin Brummett, Connecticut(m) – Brummett scored a brace to lead the Huskies in their 3-1 win over Cornell, securing a spot in the Sweet Sixteen.

F: Marcus Caldeira, West Virginia(m) - Caldeira had an incredible run for the Mountaineers, scoring a hat trick to defeat St. John’s 4-3 in the first round, then managing another goal as a late comeback fell short at High Point.
