One of college soccer’s most exciting players stepped to the fore last week.
David Loera had a hand in all three of NC State’s goals, leading the Wolfpack to a pair of much-needed wins. Last Tuesday, he scored and assisted in a 2-0 win at Longwood.
Friday night was the big one for NC State. A win would go a long way in boosting the team’s RPI, and Loera’s second-half winner proved to be enough for a 1-0 victory.
Team of the Week: October 8-14
D Patrick Hogan, Charlotte – Hogan played the full 90 in a 3-0 win against Florida International on Sunday, leading the team to its seventh shutout of the season. He also scored in Charlotte’s 2-1 mid-week loss against Radford.
D Jacob Hauser-Ramsey, Connecticut – The center back played 110 minutes in a 0-0 draw against UCF, limiting the Knights to just three shots on goal.
D Andrew Gutman, Indiana – In Friday night’s 2-1 win against Maryland, Gutman continued his dominant form in his left back spot. He scored both goals and helped limit the Terps to just a single goal on the night.
M Peter Pearson, VCU – A senior central midfielder at VCU, Pearson helped protect his back line and absorb pressure as the Rams drew 0-0 on the road against Saint Louis. He sealed a come-from-behind victory with a game-winning goal in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat of George Washington.
M David Loera, NC State – It can’t be overstated how important Loera is to his team. With two goals and eight assists on the season, he’s influenced almost half of the team’s goals through the season.
