The men’s college soccer player of the week is Guilherme Gomes, a freshman midfielder at St. John's who led a heroic two-game run.

Starting with a legendary performance against New Hampshire, the Brazilian midfielder scored four goals, including a six-minute hat trick in the first half. Gomes then played all 90 minutes in an engaging 0-0 draw with No. 2 Wake Forest, pushing the Red Storm closer to a national ranking.

Men’s Team of the Week: August 25-31

GK: Blake Kelly, Notre Dame - The Irish earned their first marquee win of the season thanks to Kelly making seven stops in a 1-0 defeat of Oregon State.

D: Aidan Martin, Cornell - The highly rated talent kicked off his sophomore season by scoring once and assisting another in 90 minutes of a 3-0 defeat of Le Moyne.

D: Jacopo Suagher, New Haven - With Suagher playing every available minute and adding an assist, the newly transitioned Division I team earned a 1-0 victory over Providence and a 1-1 draw versus Dartmouth.

D: Noah De Blasis, Louisville - After playing all 90 minutes in a 1-0 defeat of UAB, De Blasis stepped things up a notch, scoring one and assisting twice in a dominant showing versus IU Indianapolis.

M: Shane Velez, Massachusetts - Velez made the most of his only match of the week, scoring two and assisting another to lead a captivating win over Quinnipiac.

M: Ransford Gyan, Clemson - Gyan continued his incredible start to the campaign with multiple world-class strikes to finish with three goals and an assist in defeats of South Carolina and UAB.

M: Sergio Gonzalez Fernandez, George Mason - The graduate midfielder made the difference with two assists in a 4-1 upset of No. 11 Virginia.

M: Guilherme Gomes, St. John's - A four-goal performance followed by a clean sheet gave the freshman a legendary week.

F: Junior Diouf, Grand Canyon - Combining high entertainment with effective goal scoring, the highly touted freshman found the net twice and had an assist in defeats of Cleveland State and Sacramento State.

F: Palmer Ault, Indiana - Ault put his stamp on the week, starting with a goal and an assist to defeat Wisconsin-Green Bay, then followed by a double to beat Oregon State 2-0. 

F Fabio Bozesan, South Florida - With a late clutch goal to draw No. 23 UNC Greensboro, and another goal plus assist in a narrow 3-2 victory over FGCU, Bozesan was the hero the Bulls needed to break into the top 25.
