ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's soccer team closed out its weekend homestand with a scoreless draw against Wisconsin on Sunday (Sept. 25) at the U-M Soccer Stadium.

Neither team had many scoring chances in the contest, but both teams did have one significant one in the overtime periods. In the 92nd minute, U-M freshman Christina Murillo (Ojai, Calif./Nordhoff) blasted a shot from just outside the 18-yard box that ricocheted off the crossbar and out. Wisconsin forward Cara Walls appeared to have scored the game-winner on a header in front of the Michigan net in the 104th minute but was called for a foul as she pushed down U-M senior/junior goalkeeper Haley Kopmeyer (Troy, Mich./Lahser).

Wisconsin outshot Michigan, 23-11, and held the edge on shots on goal at 7-3. Kopmeyer made seven saves in net, recording her fifth shutout of the season.

Emily Jaffe made her second consecutive start for Michigan. She was added to the roster prior to Friday's game with Minnesota.

• Michigan is 8-12-4 all-time against Wisconsin.

• Wisconsin beat Michigan in double overtime last season in Madison. Wisconsin midfielder Alev Kelter scored a goal with less than two minutes to play in that contest.

• This was Michigan's second overtime game of the season. The Wolverines played to a 1-1 draw with Central Michigan on Sept. 11.

• Freshman defender Jen Pace played for the first time since Aug. 26 against Duquesne. Pace has now played in three games this season.

• Head coach Greg Ryan and associate head coach Dean Duerst were both head coaches at Wisconsin; Ryan from 1986-1993 and Duerst from 1994-2006. Ryan went 108-32-7 (.734) and Duerst went 151-105-31 (.580). Ryan and Duerst, a Madison, Wis., native, are the two winningest head coaches in the history of the Wisconsin women's soccer program.

Q U O T E S

Michigan Head Coach Greg Ryan
On the shot differential ... "I think we need to create better opportunities, but we've been a team all year long that wants to create chances in deep. The ones we had to shut down today were the ones which Wisconsin created in deep. I'm not concerned about the number of shots, but we need to be the team that ends up with the best quality."

On maintaining intensity ... "Completely different. I've never seen our girls fight this hard for each other in my four years here. They understand it, they saw it, and expressed it to me. That's the missing ingredient so far. We have to bottle that and use it for the rest of the season. If we play that hard the rest of the season, we'll be tough to beat."
