Aug. 9, 2012

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- - Michigan State head coach Damon Rensing has announced a 10th and final addition to his 2012 roster, and the impressive group of newcomers was recently ranked No. 8 in the College Soccer News ranking of incoming recruiting classes. Rensing's addition of transfer Parker Seymour (Toronto, Ontario) from Maryland helped MSU solidify a top-10 ranking of incoming classes in the country.

" It is a good sign for the future of our program to have CollegeSoccerNews.com rank our class so highly," said Rensing. "I really see it as a tribute to our staff and the returning players who have continued to move our program toward our goal of winning another Big Ten championship and getting to a College Cup. On paper, this is the best class we have brought in since I came here as an assistant in 1999, but rankings are a product of opinions - we have to prove it on the field."

The addition of Seymour, who spent his freshman year at Maryland, will help bolster an already impressive Spartan defensive effort. Seymour played on the Canadian U-17 national team which went to the U-17 World Cup in 2011, then appeared in six games last season on a deep Terp defense.

" We are really excited to add Parker to the Michigan State soccer family," noted Rensing. "His experience both with the Canadian U-17 national team and University of Maryland will have him well prepared. He is a good athlete who can both attack and defend from the outside back position. We really value his ability to get forward and create chances from that position. He should challenge for a starting spot right away."

Rensing's team has begun fall camp, and will have its annual Green and White game on Sunday, August 10th at 5 p.m. at DeMartin Stadium Practice Field. The official season opener for the Spartans comes at home on Friday, Aug. 24 against Valparaiso, which also serves as the program's Alumni Weekend.
