ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Five different players scored goals as the Navy women's soccer team (9-1) won its ninth straight game by posting a 5-0 win over VMI (1-5) on Sunday at Glenn Warner Soccer Facility.

The Mids broke the game wide open in the second half with four goals, including three in a seven-minute span. Navy saw 13 different players score at least one point on Sunday.

"We had a very good team effort today," head coach Carin Gabarra said. "We really played like a team and we got some great contributions from a number of different players. We were able to get a lot of numbers forward in our attack and we also had good team possession."

Navy first got on the board in the 18th minute when junior forward Ashlynn Soellner (Hollidaysburg, Pa.) tallied her sixth goal of the season. Senior Fallon Puppolo (Sankt Leon, Germany) sent sophomore defender Gabby McIntyre (Fort Pierce, Fla.) down the right side and McIntyre served the ball to the far post where Soellner chested it into the net.

Navy scored its second goal four minutes into the second half when freshman Kaylie Davidson (Oceanside, Calif.) and junior Taylor Batye (Tampa, Fla.) played a nice back-and-forth game with each other which ended with Davidson striking the ball from 15 yards out.

Navy's three-goal flurry began in the 73rd minute when sophomore defender Kahra Kelty (Odenton, Md.) played a ball to sophomore Lily Kraemer (Pitman, N.J) at the top of the box. Kraemer slid the ball over to sophomore Sarah Martella (Marlton, N.J) who ripped a shot from 18 yards out. It was Martella's first career goal.

A little over two minutes later senior midfielder Brittany Fruin (McLean, Va.) served the ball from the right side to the far post where senior captain Kelsey Learned (Auburn, Wash.) headed it into the back of the net.

The Mids got their fifth goal of the day in the 80th minute when freshman Jayne Woolard (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) one-timed a pass from sophomore Caprice Kelty (Odenton, Md.) from the top of the box for her first career goal. Junior Britta Vivaldi (Owings, Md.) was also credited with an assist on the play.

Martella, Learned and Woolard all scored their first goals of the season and Navy has now had 14 different players score at least one goal.

Junior goalkeeper Alexes Lopez-Shaw (Bothell, Wash.) earned the win in net for Navy by playing the first 81 minutes. Junior goalkeeper Kalli Schulz (Kenosha, Wis.) logged the final nine minutes to earn a hand in the combined shutout. Neither goalkeeper needed to make a save.

Navy outshot VMI, 38-1, and held a 13-0 advantage in corner kicks. The Mids registered 10 corner kicks in the second half. Navy put 11 shots on goal on Sunday.

The Mids have not lost a game since their season opener on August 17 against then No. 13 Maryland.

The Mids will next host Boise State on Friday at 7:00 PM.
