Miller, Lady Cougars Defeat West Georgia 4-0

Carrollton – Ashley Millerscored two goals as the Columbus State University women's soccer team cruised to a 4-0 over West Georgia in Carrollton, GA. The game was played at University Field in Carrollton, Georgia.

With the victory, CSU improves to 10-3-2 on the year while UWG drops to 4-8-1.

The match started off slow as the Lady Cougars only took three shots in the first 18 minutes of action. The first dangerous shot came off the foot of All-American Stephanie Lowery in the 20th minute as she fired a shot that UWG goalie Mary Laza saved.

Just two minutes later, Emily Husted knocked in the first CSU goal off a great flick off the head of Lowery from midfield.

The Lady Cougars struck again in the 29th minute as Miller scored the first of her two goals. Miller took the ball to the right flag and lost possession of the ball by a good defensive stop by a West Georgia defender. Miller stuck with the play and regained the ball then took a shot that curled into the left post for the goal.

Christine Kelly just missed out on her first goal on the season in the 36th minute as her shot hit off the crossbar.

Six minutes into the second half Kelly served a great ball to freshman Kelsey Pelletier as the freshman used her speed to get around a defender to set up a one vs. one with the goalie. Pelletier easily tapped in her fourth goal on the season.

Columbus State wrapped up the scoring just three minutes later as Lowery took a long shot that the goalie missed played. The ball popped out right to Miller as the sophomore knock home her second goal of the match.

Mary Mancin picked up her 10th win on the season playing the first 74 minutes while freshman Katlin Stephens played the final 16.

Laza took the lost dropping her record to 4-8-1.

Columbus State will be back in action Wednesday, October 19 as they will travel to face Peach Belt Conference foe Clayton State at 7:00 p.m.
