COLUMBIA, Mo. – The No. 15 Mizzou soccer team used two second half goals to post a 2-1 win over Ole Miss Friday night in front of 1,539 fans at Walton Stadium. With the win, the Tigers improved to 8-1 overall and 3-0 in Southeastern Conference play. The Rebels fell to 8-2 and 1-2.

Mizzou nearly opened scoring in the 10th minute but sophomore Taylor Grant’s blast bounced off the left post. One minutes later, the Ole Miss offense struck when Rafaella Souza raced down the left side and sent a cross into the box. Bethany Bunker got her foot on the ball and sent it past Mizzou goalie McKenzie Sauerwein for a 1-0 Rebel lead.

The Tiger offense peppered the Ole Miss goalkeeper with shots in the rest of the first half but could not find the back of the net for a 1-0 Ole Miss halftime advantage.

In the 63rd minute, senior Haley Krentz dribbled along the endline and sent a pass across the goalmouth. Sophomore Abi Raymer pounced on the pass and drilled a shot into the left side of the netting for a 1-1 contest. The goal was the fourth of the season for Raymer, while Kretnz notched her team-leading sixth assist of the year on the play.

Redshirt freshman Lauren Flynn recorded Mizzou’s game-winner in the 78th minute off of a Tiger corner. Krentz lofted a ball to the far post that bounced around finding Flynn. The defender one-timed a 15-yard shot over the Rebel’s keeper and into the upper netting for a 2-1 game. The tally was the first of Flynn’s career.

Missouri’s offense continued to push but could not score again for a 2-1 final.

The Tigers outshot the Rebels 26-14 and had 10 corners to the Rebel’s one.

Sauerwein recorded four saves in goal for Missouri.

Mizzou returns to the pitch on Sunday, Sept. 23 when the team hosts Vanderbilt at 1 p.m.
