MLS Academy alumni roundup: Sep. 11

Graduates of MLS Academies are everywhere in the college ranks nowadays, as many are aiming to continue developing in hopes of one day landing a homegrown contract.

For now, of course, the focus is on their college teams, as the season continues to move along and the chase for the College Cup inches along.

Here’s a look at how a selection of MLS Academy alumni fared in Division I action over the last week: 

Chicago Fire 

Junior GK Charlie Lyon played 180 minutes in Marquette’s wins over Bowling Green (3-0) and Drake (4-1).

Senior F Harrison Shipp played 110 minutes and had an assist in Notre Dame’s 1-1 draw against North Carolina on Sep. 8.

Junior F Tyler Engel played 85 minutes and scored a goal in North Carolina’s 1-1 draw against Notre Dame on Sep. 8. 

Sophomore F Joey Calistri played 60 minutes and scored two goals in Northwestern’s 2-0 win over Xavier on Sep. 7. 

Senior MF Chris Ritter played 90 minutes in Northwestern’s 2-0 win over Xavier on Sep. 7.

Chivas USA

Sophomore D Brendan Hines-Ike played 90 minutes in Creighton’s 3-1 defeat of Columbia on Sep. 6.

Freshman MF Romario Lomeli came off the bench and played 48 minutes in UC Riverside's 2-0 win over Georgia State on Sep. 6. He also played 39 minutes and scored a goal in a 3-2 win against Bradley on Sep. 8.

Sophomore MF Eric Gonzalez started and played 77 minutes in UC Riverside's 2-0 win over Georgia State on Sep. 6. He also played 68 minutes in a 3-2 win against Bradley on Sep. 8.

Colorado Rapids 

Freshman MF Ricardo Perez played 66 minutes and scored a goal in Creighton’s 3-1 defeat of Columbia on Sep. 6. 

Senior D Patrick Slogic played 106 minutes and scored a goal in Cornell’s 2-1 overtime win over Hartwick on Sep. 8. He also played 90 minutes in a 1-1 draw against Detroit(m) on Sep. 6.

Junior F James Rogers scored a goal in New Mexico’s 1-1 draw against VCU on Sep. 6, and also assisted in a 1-0 win over Georgetown on Sep. 8. 

Columbus Crew

Freshman D Alex Crognale played 90 minutes in Maryland’s 3-1 win over Duke on Sep. 6, and 90 minutes in a 3-2 loss against VCU on Sep. 8.

Senior D Sage Gardner played 61 minutes in Ohio State’s 4-1 loss against Tulsa on Sep. 6, and 90 minutes in a 1-0 win over SMU on Sep. 8.

Sophomore D Andrew Souders played 105 minutes in Akron’s 2-1 loss against St. John's on Sep. 6, and 82 minutes in a 2-1 win over Rutgers on Sep. 8.

D.C. United

Junior D Nat Eggleston played 90 minutes in Duke’s 3-1 loss at Maryland on Sep. 6.

Freshman MF Jimmy Doll played 90 minutes in Duke’s 3-1 loss at Maryland on Sep. 6.

Freshman D Suliaman Dainkeh played 90 minutes in Maryland’s 3-1 win over Duke on Sep. 6, and 86 minutes in a 3-2 loss against VCU on Sep. 8.

Freshman MF Ian Harkes played 90 minutes and had two assists in Wake Forest’s 2-0 win over Boston College on Sep. 7.

Sophomore D Jalen Robinson played 90 minutes in Wake Forest’s 2-0 win over Boston College on Sep. 7. 

Freshman D Rafael Fagundo played 90 minutes in Wake Forest’s 2-0 win over Boston College on Sep. 7. 

FC Dallas

Junior D Boyd Okwuonu played 110 minutes in North Carolina’s 1-1 draw against Notre Dame on Sep. 6.

Sophomore D Mikey Ambrose played 90 minutes in Maryland’s 3-1 win over Duke on Sep. 6, and 90 minutes in a 3-2 loss against VCU on Sep. 8.

Junior D Jack Coleman played 69 minutes in Duke’s 3-1 loss at Maryland on Sep. 6.

Senior GK Jaime Ibarra played 90 minutes in SMU’s 1-0 loss against SIUE on Sep. 6 and 90 minutes in a 1-0 loss against Ohio State on Sep. 8.

Houston Dynamo

Senior D Sebastien Ibeagha played 90 minutes in Duke’s 3-1 loss at Maryland on Sep. 6.

Sophomore GK Fernando Pina started, played 90 minutes and made four saves in Akron’s 2-1 loss in overtime to St. John's on Sep. 6. Pina played 104 minutes and made four saves in a 2-1 win against Rutgers on Sep. 8.

Junior D Uchenna Uzo played 90 minutes in Coastal Carolina’s 2-1 loss against Charlotte on Sep. 6.

Freshman D Alex Ochoa played 90 minutes in West Virginia’s 3-0 loss against Georgetown on Sep. 6. He also played 104 minutes, notching an assist in a 5-4 overtime win against Indiana on Sep. 8.

Sophomore D Bradley Bourgeois played 90 minutes in Tulsa’s 4-1 win over Ohio State on Sep. 6, and 81 minutes in a 2-0 defeat of SIUE on Sep. 8.

LA Galaxy

Sophomore D Javan Torre played 54 minutes in UCLA’s 3-0 loss against Cal Poly on Sep. 5. 

Freshman D Nathan Smith played 90 minutes in UCLA’s 3-0 loss against Cal Poly on Sep. 5.

Freshman F Justin Dhillon played 10 minutes in Cal Poly’s 3-0 win against UCLA on Sep. 5.

Sophomore MF Grady Howe played 36 minutes in UCLA’s 3-0 loss against Cal Poly on Sep. 5. 

Freshman MF Brian Iloski played 78 minutes in Cal Poly’s 3-0 win against UCLA on Sep. 5.

Montreal Impact

Freshman D Kai Morton played 90 minutes in Coastal Carolina’s 2-1 loss against Charlotte on Sep. 6.

New England Revolution

Junior F Cole DeNormandie played four minutes in Boston College’s 2-0 loss against Wake Forest on Sep. 7. 

New York Red Bulls

Junior MF Sean Davis played 90 minutes and scored a goal in Duke’s 3-1 loss at Maryland on Sep. 6. 

Senior MF David Najem played 72 minutes and scored a goal in Columbia’s 3-1 loss at Creighton on Sep. 6. Also played 77 minutes in a 1-0 loss at Nebraska-Omaha on Sep. 8.

Sophomore F Brandon Allen scored two goals and had an assist in Georgetown’s 3-0 win over West Virginia on Sep. 6. 

Junior MF Dan Metzger played 69 minutes in Maryland’s 3-1 win over Duke on Sep. 6, and 85 minutes in a 3-2 loss against VCU on Sep. 8.

Freshman MF Adam Najem played 69 minutes in Akron’s 2-1 loss against St. John's on Sep. 6, and 48 minutes off the bench in a 2-1 win over Rutgers on Sep. 8.

Sophomore D Scott Thomsen played 77 minutes in Virginia’s 2-0 loss against Clemson on Sep. 6.

Philadelphia Union

Freshman GK Zack Steffen played 90 minutes and made one save in Maryland’s 3-1 win over Duke on Sep. 6. Also started and played 90 minutes in a 3-2 loss against VCU.

Sophomore F Darius Madison played 45 minutes in Virginia’s 2-0 loss against Clemson on Sep. 6. 

Portland Timbers

Freshman MF James Nosack played 11 minutes in Washington’s 4-1 win against Portland on Sep. 6.

Real Salt Lake

Freshman F Coco Navarro played 76 minutes, score a goal and had two assists in Marquette’s 4-1 victory over Drake on Sep. 8. He also played 65 minutes in a 3-1 win over Bowling Green on Sep. 6. 

Junior D Phanuel Kavita played 90 minutes in Clemson’s 2-0 win over Virginia on Sep. 6, and also went 90 minutes in a 3-0 win over Gardner-Webb on Sep. 8.    

Freshman MF Jordan Allen played 90 minutes in Virginia’s 2-0 loss against Clemson on Sep. 6. 

Freshman MF Andrew Brody played 81 minutes in Louisville’s 1-0 loss against Butler on Sep. 7.

Sophomore MF Ricardo Velazco played 75 minutes in Louisville’s 1-0 loss against Butler on Sep. 7. 

San Jose Earthquakes

Sophomore GK Kendall McIntosh played 90 minutes in Santa Clara’s 1-0 loss against Stanford on Sep. 7. 

Seattle Sounders FC

Junior F Nick Palodichuk played 59 minutes in Duke’s 3-1 loss at Maryland on Sep. 6. He also played 67 minutes and scored a goal in a 1-0 win over Georgia State on Sep. 10.

Junior F Darwin Jones played 61 minutes in Washington’s 4-1 win against Portland on Sep. 6.

Sophomore D Ian Lange played 79 minutes and scored a goal in Washington’s 4-1 win against Portland on Sep. 6.

Sophomore MF Aaron Kovar played 82 minutes in Stanford’s 1-0 win over Santa Clara on Sep. 7.

Junior F Sean Okoli played 79 minutes in Wake Forest’s 2-0 win over Boston College on Sep. 7.

Sporting KC

Freshman MF Seo-in Kim played 70 minutes in Duke’s 3-1 loss at Maryland on Sep. 6.

Senior MF Alex Sweetin played 69 minutes in Saint Louis's 4-0 win over Cincinnati on Sep. 6. He also played 108 minutes and had an assist in a 1-0 win over Northern Illinois on Sep. 8.

Toronto FC

Freshman F Sergio Camargo came off the bench and played 34 minutes in Coastal Carolina’s 2-1 loss against Charlotte on Sep. 6. He also came off the bench, played 39 minutes and scored twice in a 3-1 win over South Carolina on Sep. 10.

Junior D Jordan Murrell started and played 79 minutes in Syracuse's 4-1 win over Manhattan on Sep. 9. He also played 98 minutes in a 2-1 loss against Virginia Tech on Sep. 6.

Vancouver Whitecaps 

Freshman F Brody Huitema played 82 minutes in Duke’s 3-1 loss at Maryland on Sep. 6.

Freshman GK Sean Melvin played 180 minutes in two games for UNC Wilmington – a 2-1 loss against Presbyterian on Sep. 6 and a 3-1 win over Mercer on Sep. 8. 

Sophomore GK Callum Irving played 90 minutes in Kentucky’s 4-0 win over IPFW(m) on Sep. 8.
