FORT MYERS, Fla. – FGCU men’s soccer senior Will Morse (Sugar Land, Texas/Clements HS) scored a goal in each of the team’s wins last weekend at the USF Tournament and on Monday was recognized with the Atlantic Sun Player of the Week award and a spot on the College Soccer News National Team of the Week.

The weekly awards are the first of Morse’s career, as he became the first player in the six-year history of the program to score a goal in three straight games. The Eagles (3-2) have won all three games Morse has scored in this season.

Morse began his three-game streak two Sunday’s ago when he tallied the game-winner in double-overtime against Bucknell and carried that momentum over to the USF Tournament this past weekend. The Sugar Land, Texas product added a second half insurance goal in both of FGCU’s shutout wins over MAAC favorite Iona (2-0) and Conference USA foe South Carolina (3-0), who defeated No. 2 USF two nights earlier.

Morse’s three goals are a team-high and tied for second in the A-Sun. He is the only player on the Green and Blue with multiple goals, as five different players have scored while nine have registered a point.

After playing four of its first five games away from home, FGCU will now host the Courtyard By Marriott Classic on Friday, Sept. 14 and Sunday, Sept. 16. The classic will open with No. 21 Furman (4-1-1) taking on FIU at 5 p.m. while FGCU and VCU (3-0-2) will square off a roughly 7:30 p.m. in a “Green Out.” All tickets for Friday night’s game will be half off for fans that wear green in support of the Eagles. Sunday’s lone matchup will feature FGCU against No. 21 Furman at 2:30 p.m.
