Emmitsburg, Md. (September 7, 2014) – After playing a scoreless first half, the Mount St. Mary's women's soccer team yielded a pair of second-half goals to drop a 2-0 home decision to Delaware State at Waldron Family Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Mount St. Mary's (0-6) had its share of chances throughout the game, but was never able to capitalize on six shots on goal. On the other end, Delaware State (1-5) notched tallies on Paige Wilcox's strike in the 48th minute and Addison Taylor's header in the 90th minute for the victory.

The Hornets fired two shots in the opening two minutes of the game, one that missed wide right and another that was turned away by Mount goalkeeper Rachel Bourne. The Mountaineers were able to respond with a pair of shots in the 12th minute, but could not beat Delaware State's Katelyn Koslowsky between the pipes.

DSU's Julia Bossert came within inches of giving the visitors a 1-0 advantage in the 14th minute, but her shot from 18 yards off caromed off the crossbar and out.

In the 39th minute, the Mount appeared to take the lead when senior Alicia Mirando took anEmma Blair through ball and ripped a shot into the lower left-hand corner of the goal from 12 yards out. The play, however, was ruled offside to keep the game scoreless heading to halftime.

Early in the second half, Wilcox gave the Hornets the lead when she corralled a loose ball in the box on an attempted clear by the Mount off a corner kick in the 48th minute.

The Mount managed four shots the rest of the way, three of which were on frame, but Koslowsky was up to the task with three second-half saves.

The Hornets secured an insurance goal in the final minute of the game on Addison's header off a Taylor Pratcher corner kick for the 2-0 win.

On the offensive end, Nicole Vallely and Jordan Fine put two shots apiece on target for the Mountaineers, while Wilcox took a team-high four shots for Delaware State. In goal, Bourne registered three saves in the first half with Vicky Cocozza closing the game with one save for the Mount. Koslosky turned away six shots for the Hornets.  

Up next, the Mount travels to Lewisburg, Pa. to take on Bucknell on Tuesday, Sept. 9. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
