MSU Too Much for Rangers in RMAC Semifinal

November 8, 2014

Golden, Colorado: The Regis University Ranger women's soccer team fell 3-0 to the No. 13 Metropolitan State University of Denver Roadrunners in the semifinal match of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament.  The Rangers are the No. 3 see and the Roadrunners the No. 2 seed.

Play in the beginning of the match was even between both squads, much of the possession took place in the middle of the field with both teams exchanging offensive attacks.  The Roadrunners broke the silence in the 33rd minute as a through ball made it past the Ranger defensive line to give MSU Denver a 1-0 lead at halftime.

The Rangers started the second half off strong applying pressure to the Roadrunner backline.  Regis was awarded a free kick in the 53rd minute of play that required the MSU Denver goalkeeper to lift the ball up and over the crossbar.

Still in search of the equalizer with 20 minutes remaining, RU pieced together some dangerous counter attacks but could never find the back of the net.  The Roadrunners made it a 2-0 game scoring off a corner kick in the 68th minute of play.

In the 77th minute freshman defender Maggie Saras (Boise, Idaho) fired a low shot just outside the 18-yard box that required the Roadrunner goalkeeper to make a diving save.  MSU Denver sealed the victory scoring the game-winning goal in the 79th minute of play.

Sophomore goalkeeper Kat Crump (Huntsville, Alabama) played in all 90 minutes of action and made two saves, both in the first half, while facing ten shots.  Both teams ended with ten shots a piece, Regis saw more second half chances with five shots to the Roadrunners three.  Each team saw four corner kick opportunities.
