MTU Huskies defeat SCSU Huskies, 2-0

Houghton, Mich. - The St. Cloud State University soccer team (1-1, 0-0 NSIC) lost its first match of the season with a 2-0 setback at Michigan Tech University on Sunday, Sept. 7 in Houghton, Mich.

The match completed the Huskies' season-opening weekend, which was started on Sept. 5 with a 1-0 win by the Huskies at Northern Michigan.  The Huskies will continue the non-conference portion of their schedule with a home match at Husky Stadium against Emporia State on Friday, Sept. 12.  The action will get underway at 6 p.m.

St. Cloud State battled MTU to a 0-0 draw at the end of the first half, as SCSU was outshot 8-4 in the first half.  The MTU Huskies broke the shutout in the second half with a goal by Lexi Herrewig at 45:23.  Jackie Mielke padded MTU's lead with the second goal of the day at 86:40.  In the match, MTU outshot the Huskies 17-8.  

HUSKY HIGHLIGHTS:

• SCSU netminder Brittany Plombon charted seven saves in the game at MTU.  

• The Huskies posted six corner kicks in the game, while MTU had none.

• The Huskies will host their 2014 season opener on Friday, Sept. 12 vs. Emporia State.  The match at Husky Stadium will start at 6 p.m.

• The game vs. Emporia State will be part of the fall Celebrate, St. Cloud State activities.

• Fans can purchase tickets for the home opener at the gate.  All SCSU students with a valid ID card will be admitted to all regular season home games for free in 2014.

• On Sept. 14, the Huskies will open NSIC play with a match at Minnesota Duluth
