MU offense produces big effort
NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – A 34-6 shots advantage put Manchester University’s offense on the doorstep of Kentucky Christian University’s net throughout the afternoon Saturday, Sept. 7.
The Spartans’ offense converted 10 of those overall opportunities and made better than 50 percent of its shot on goal chances (10-of-19) en route to a 10-0 win. The victory opened the 2013 Anderson University-Manchester University Raven-Spartan Classic on a high note.
Junior midfielder Katelyn Barta (Griffith, Ind.), continuing an impressive week, was one of three multiple-goal scorers. She tallied two, including the eventual game-winner in the 11th minute as part of a seven-point day with three assists included. MU also received two-goal matches from junior forward Breanna McLane (Westville, Ind.) and sophomore forward Brandy Crouse (Cleves, Ohio). Crouse and McLane shared the shots’ lead with six each.
The offensive output was more than enough for the goalkeeper tandem of junior Emily Willmann (Montpelier, Ind.) and freshman Adriana Brown (Columbia City, Ind.). They thwarted three Knights’ shot on goal attempts as part of the combined shutout.
The Black and Gold (2-1-1) continues the 2013 Raven-Spartan Classic Sunday, Sept. 8. Ohio Athletic Conference member Muskingum visits Spartan Field for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
NOTES: Barta’s multiple-goal outing was her second of the week and third of her career. … Willmann was part of her 17th career combined/individual shutout in net. … The 10 goals for the Spartans were the most in a match since 2003.
