ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Sophomore forward Ashlynn Soellner connected on a header in the 84th minute as Navy (8-5-3, 1-2-1) tied Colgate (9-4-2, 2-0-2) in double-overtime, 1-1, on Saturday afternoon at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility.

"I liked our energy and I liked our intensity today," head coach Carin Gabarra said. "Colgate is a quality team and their attack is very good. I'm happy that we are creating chances and we are getting numbers forward. We are doing some good things and we just need to translate that into scoring some more goals as we move forward."

Trailing 1-0 and with time running out, senior team captain Kate Herren served a corner kick into the box, where an awaiting Soellner headed the ball into the net for her third goal of the season on 83:26.With her sixth assist of the season, Herren now shares the Patriot League lead in the category.

Neither team could score after Soellner's goal and the two teams went on to play 20 minutes of scoreless overtime to finish the game in a draw.

A Navy handball in the box just 50 seconds into the second half set Colgate up with a penalty kick. However Navy goalkeeper Alexes Lopez-Shaw correctly read Elise Amioka's attempt and made a nice diving save to her right to stop her second penalty kick of the season.

However, just a minute later, Colgate's Danielle Wessler sent Jillian Kinter on a long run down the left side and Kinter got ahead of the Navy defense. Kinter carried the ball in on goal and took a shot from 15 yards out that was initially deflected by Lopez-Shaw, but fell just inside the far post.

Navy had several other scoring opportunities in the game and outshot Colgate, 30-9, including 9-1 in the overtime periods. Sophomore Britta Vivaldi ripped a shot in the 40th minute that clanged off the cross bar and junior Brittany Fruin had her shot hit the post as the buzzer for the end of regulation sounded.

Herren broke up a scoring chance for Colgate in the 27th minute. Colgate crossed the ball in front of the net and it appeared a forward would have a wide open net on the far post but Herren swooped in and cleared the ball over the net to break up the attempt.

Lopez-Shaw made seven saves in the game and Soellner took a game-high five shots. Freshman Rachel Hunter and sophomore Hannah Morse each took four shots in the game.

This was the eighth time that Navy has gone to overtime this season, tying the program record set by the 2008 squad.

The Mids will play their final non-conference game of the regular season on Monday when South Carolina State travels to Annapolis for a 4:00 PM game.

Navy has three Patriot League games remaining in this season. The team will host Army and Holy Cross next weekend before traveling to Bucknell for the finale on Oct. 29.
