ANNAPOLIS, Md. - A late goal with time winding down from junior forward Morgan Dankanich (Glenmoore, Pa.) was not enough as North Carolina State (1-0-0) downed Navy (0-1-0), 3-2, on Friday, Aug. 23 at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility. The Midshipmen look ahead to The Citadel on Sunday to continue their three-game homestand.

Navy's Dankanich and sophomore midfielder Kaylie Davidson (Oceanside, Calif) each found the back of the net. Junior defender Julie Schumacher (Plantation, Fla.) and senior forward Paloma Perez each got on the scoresheet with an assist.

The Midshipmen led in both shots, 15-9, and in corner kicks, 7-5.

In the 34^th minute, Navy jumped on the board first off the head of Davidson. Perez slashed into the box and chipped a pass right in front of the net for Davidson to finish. The Mids defense locked down for the final 11 minutes to hold a 1-0 lead.

As the second half began, a crucial offsides call on Navy gave N.C. State a free kick at half field. The Wolfpack's Dayna Tomayko sent the free kick in a herd of players. With the ball dropping down, N.C. State forward Caroline Gentry redirected the pass with her head passed Navy goalkeeper Elizabeth Hoerner (Lititz, Pa.) to tie the match at 1-1 with 36 minutes remaining.

Moments later, N.C. State's Jessica Baity dribbled the ball inside the goalkeeper box. Baity then sent a low crossing pass in front of the net for teammate Jackie Stengel to send a one-timer through. The Wolfpack led 2-1 with 34 minutes left in the match.

With the Mids down one, Schumacher, in the 62^nd minute, found herself open from 18 yards out and sent a shot that just went over the crossbar.

Following the Navy attack, N.C. State pushed the ball into the Midshipmen's defensive end. Brittany Stanko directed a pass into a group of Navy defenders. As the pass from Stanko entered into the Navy group, junior defender Jade Seabrook(St. Paris, Ohio) tried to send the pass out-of-bounds, but instead went into her own net. The Navy own goal put N.C. State up 3-1 with 26 minutes to go in regulation.

Navy's junior midfielder Rachel Hunter had two good looks at the net in the 76^th and 79^th minute. However, one of Hunter's shots was blocked and the other missed the inside of the post by a few feet.

In the 84^th minute, the Mids' Schumacher lobbed a pass from outside the box that found the foot of Dankanich to cut the deficit to one, 3-2. Dankanich sent a shot from 16 yards out for the last attacking opportunity, but was denied by N.C. State goalkeeper Karly Gustafson to preserve the win for the Wolfpack.

Navy's Hoerner recorded three saves on six chances. N.C. State's Gustafson tallied two saves on three chances.
