ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Senior defender Jade Seabrook (St. Paris, Ohio) recorded the game-winning goal and helped Navy blank Holy Cross, 2-0 on Friday at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility. Navy improved to 4-1-1 in Patriot League play while Holy Cross fell to 1-4-1.

“Our ability to shutdown a good Holy Cross squad showed our discipline in our defensive third tonight,” Navy head coach Carin Gabarra said on the shut out. “We set a game plan and knew which players to key on and limit their offensive opportunities and we did a great job executing that plan.”

Navy’s defense held Holy Cross in check for 90 minutes, limiting the Crusaders to five shots, two shots on net and just one corner kick. Seabrook and Navy’s backline held Aly Spencer, the Patriot League leader in goals with 10, to three total shots, one of which was on net.

“We preached all week to work as a unit and limit their chances on net,” Seabrook said on Navy’s solid defensive effort. “Being able to keep them from generating any offensive chances in the middle for most of the game was key.”

Seabrook also helped Navy on the offensive end in the 50^th minute to give the Mids a 1-0 lead. Senior defender Julie Schumacher (Plantation, Fla.) sent in a great service from 35 yards out, off a free kick, to the far post where senior forward Morgan Dankanich (Glenmoore, Pa.) was there to head in towards the net. Holy Cross goalkeeper Carly McCabe was in position to make the save but Seabrook stepped in front of the shot and redirected towards the near post for her fourth goal of the season.

Holding on to a 1-0 lead late in the contest, Dankanich added an insurance goal in the 86^th minute. Schumacher began Navy’s scoring opportunity, from almost the exact spot on the field as Navy’s first goal, with a service that curved in front of the net for Dankanich to run past her defender and head towards the far post for her fifth goal of the season and 34^th of her career.

Navy held advantages over Holy Cross in shots, 18-5, shots on net, 11-2 and corner kicks, 5-1. Navy goalkeeper Dayton Wetherby recorded her third career shutout, tallying two saves. Holy Cross goalie McCabe tallied eight saves on 10 chances in the loss.

With two assists in the match, Schumacher moved into a tie for fifth place with Vanessa Solon in program history with 25 career assists. Dankanich’s 34^th career goal landed her sixth all-time in program history and is three away from Amelia Sheveland’s 37 goals for fifth all-time.

Navy is unbeaten in its last seven matches and will look to carry that momentum on Wednesday against Lehigh in Bethlehem, Pa. The match is scheduled for 6 p.m. and can be seen live for free on PatriotLeague.TV.
