RALEIGH – The NC State men’s soccer team (2-1-0) picked up its second win of the season on Friday evening, earning a 1-0 victory over visiting Longwood (1-1-0) at Dail Soccer Stadium.

The Wolfpack dominated the match and outshot the Lancers by a massive 18-3 margin that included an 8-1 edge in shots on target. Longwood goalkeeper Jacob Reimers made seven saves on the evening.

NC State scored the lone goal of the contest in the 34th minute. Senior Tyler Gabarra sent in a left-footed free kick that defender Jamie Smith headed on frame. Reimers made a difficult save, punching the ball back into the penalty area in the process. NC State freshman defender Pablo Pedregosa immediately ran on to the rebound and scored just inside the far post despite being simultaneously fouled hard by a Longwood defender.

Longwood’s best chance of the evening came in the 26th minute following a corner kick by Marcus Gronli. His service into the area was headed on target by Ander Etxaniz, but Wolfpack defender Jamie Smith was in a good position and headed the attempt off the line and out of harm’s way. NC State did not allow a single Longwood shot throughout the course of the final 64 minutes.
