NCAA Sweet 16 Once Again; Rangers to Host as #1 Seed in NCAA Super Region

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.:  For now the second time in Regis men's soccer history (first being in 2012), the Rangers have advanced to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament.  The post-season NCAA appearance is their third all-time.

RU will host their first ever Sweet Sixteen tournament round on Fri., Nov. 22 and the Elite Eight round on Sun., Nov. 24.  Game times will be announced later this week.

Regis advances to the third round after receiving their second straight first seed bid in the South Central Region in two consecutive years.  During the 2013 season, the Rangers went 13-3-1 overall and finished the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference with an 11-2-1 record.

The Rangers will play the winner of the second round match between Midwestern State and Colorado School of Mines that takes place at Midwestern on Sun., Nov. 17. 

During the year, Mines defeated Midwestern 1-0 in their second match of the season.  Since then, MSU has gone 11-3-2 while CSM finished 11-6-1.

As a team, the Rangers amassed 44 goals, 36 assists and 124 points so far this season, averaging 2.59 goals per game and a .483 shot on goal percentage.

Freshman Connor Adkisson has put up 53 saves and two shutouts, while allowing only 13 goals for a 1.21 goals against average in 969 minutes.

The Rangers ranked first in the conference in many categories while ranking nationally in those same categories.  The team ranked 11th nationally in win-loss-tied percentage, 13th in points per game, scoring offense and total assists and 14th in assists per game.  They ranked second in the conference and 17thnationally in total goals and 18th in total points. 

Junior Martin Maybin and senior Mark Kelly have also put in quite a presence both in the RMAC and nationally.

Maybin ranks first in the conference in over six categories and ranks third nationally in total points, fourth in total goals and points per game, seventh in goals per game, 12th in total assists and 19th in assists per game.

Kelly ranks nationally in points per game (23rd) and total assists (25th), goals (27th) and points (16th).
