NCAA Women’s Tournament moves to 3rd Round

2nd round play in the NCAA Women’s soccer tournament was completed Sunday, with 16 teams advancing to the tournament’s 3rd round, to be played next weekend. Following is a rundown of 2nd round matches and 3rd round matchups.

At Stanford: Stanford 2, BYU 0 (Saturday)
Kelley O’Hara recorded 2 more assists, this time on goals for Lindsey Taylor and Alicia Jenkins as the Cardinal pushed their season record to 22-0-0.
At Santa Clara: Oklahoma State 1, Santa Clara 1 (Santa Clara advances on penalties, 6-5)
The Cowgirls went through their 2nd PK shootout in as many matches, after Kasey Langdon equalized in the 2nd half to cancel out Jordan Angeli’s opener for Santa Clara. This time it was Broncos’ goalkeeper Biancan Henninger who made the vital save and Jerry Smith’s team advanced after 7 rounds of PKs.
At Wisconsin: Wisconsin 1, UCF 0
Roxanne Carlson scored the winner and Michele Dalton recorded the shutout in goal for Paula Wilkins’ Badgers.
At Boston College: Boston College 2, Connecticut 0
Natalie Crutchfield and Victoria DiMartino scored in support of a Jillian Mastroianni shutout as the Eagles advanced.
3rd Round Matchups: Stanford vs. Santa Clara; Boston College vs. Wisconsin

UCLA Bracket
At Portland: Portland 2, Washington 1
Halley Kreminski scored twice for the Pilots in a close win over the 10-player Huskies.
At Dayton: Virginia Tech 3, Dayton 1
Marika Gray scored twice and Kelly Conheeney once as the Hokies beat the Flyers.
An extraordinary match in State College as the Cavaliers, trailing 2-0 at halftime, hit the Nittany Lions for 6 goals in the 2nd half to win comfortably. Caroline Miller scored 2 goals while Sinead Farrelly added a goal and 2 assists to lead the outburst.
At UCLA: UCLA 5, San Diego State 0
Sydney Leroux scored twice, with Dea Cook, Lauren Cheney and Kylie Wright adding 1 goal each for the Bruins.
3rd Round Matchups: Portland vs. Virginia Tech; Virginia vs. UCLA

North Carolina Bracket
At North Carolina: North Carolina 4, Georgia 0
Tar Heel goalscorers included Courtney Jones, Tobin Heath, Meghan Klingenberg and Lucy Bronze. Casey Nogueira added 2 assists.
At Maryland: Maryland 1, Washington State 0
Jasmyne Spencer scored the winner for the Terrapins.
At Wake Forest: Wake Forest 3, West Virginia 0
Casey Luckhurst, Jill Hutchinson and Ally Berry scored for the Demon Deacons while Laura Morse and Amanda Barasha combined for a shutout in goal.
At South Carolina: South Carolina 1, Rutgers 0
Brooke Jacobs scored a 1st-half winner and Mollie Patton recorded the shutout in goal for the Gamecocks.
3rd Round Matchups: North Carolina vs. Maryland; Wake Forest vs. South Carolina

At Notre Dame: Notre Dame 6, Central Michigan 1
Melissa Henderson scored 4 goals and Rose Augustin and Rachel Vandergenugten 1 each for the Fighting Irish.
At Ohio State: Oregon State 1, Florida 0 (OT)
Melinda Ingalls scored the golden goal and the Beavers held the Gators to zero shots on goal.
At LSU: Texas A&M(w) 1, LSU 1 (Texas A&M(w) advances on penalties, 4-2)
The Aggies made all 4 spot kicks after Emily Peterson had scored during regulation. Melissa Clarke scored for the Tigers.
At Florida State: Florida State 2, California 0
Toni Pressley, Jessica Price and Tiffany McCarty scored for the Seminoles.
