Experience Next-Level Soccer This Summer
Chasing next-level dreams is what fuels players around the country.
In an aim to serve talented prospects and provide a snapshot of what playing beyond high school looks like, The Soccer Camp at Episcopal is set to launch this summer from July 6-10.
Put together by George Hales, an experienced coach and educator in the D.C. Metro-area, the camp seeks to offer players a hands-on opportunity of what it looks like to keep playing at the next level, whether professionally or collegiately.
“We are creating a special environment that most players rarely have the opportunity to experience," Hales explaiend. "They will have the opportunity to learn from some of the world’s best educators, with first-hand experience at the very top of the game, who all share a common passion for player development. Everything in the week is connected to their growth and education so that they return home with an expanded tool-kit to set them up for long term success."
Set to be hosted by the world-class facilities at Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Va. (which will also host the Croatian national team for the 2026 World Cup) the weeklong experience will certainly hone a player between the lines. But the holistic curriculum will cover all aspects of what is required in order to excel: film sessions, nutrition, education, focusing on accountability, details and recovery protocol.
Hales has assembled a top-tier staff to offer players the opportunity to replicate the intensity and expectations of what they would find in a collegiate and professional environment. With access to both full outdoor fields and futsal courts, players will not only have the chance to compete in the latter, but also glean how to translate futsal skills into the full-field, 11-aside environment.
“Some players don’t recognize what the game demands, some understand it, and the best ones influence it — that’s the level we’re trying to build," Christian Roldan, a futsal world champion coach with the Catalonia women's team and former professional coach in the Indian Premier Futsal League who will be part of the staff.
Players will leave camp with an increased confidence and composure on the ball, improve their decision-making under pressure and improve their first touch and ability to play at speed. The film sessions on offer will demonstrate the off-field preparation and education that a next-level environment will seek to foster.
"The goal isn’t to be better for a week; it’s to build habits that separate you for years," Zaneta Wyne, a camp staff member who is a former pro soccer player and current assistant coach with D.C. Power in the USL Super League. "The small building blocks will help players start the journey that they will inevitably have to keep building on themselves."
