The University of Nevada soccer team (4-4-1, 0-0 MW) will welcome its first ranked opponent to Mackay Stadium Sunday afternoon, with a match against No. 15 California (6-2, 0-0 Pac-12) at 1 p.m. The Wolf Pack is 0-2 as a program against ranked opponents, losing 3-1 to No. 16 Stanford during the 2006 season and falling 3-0 to No. 17 Santa Clara last season.

The Bears lead the overall series 1-0, defeating Nevada 4-1 in the previous meeting during the 2009 season in Berkeley. Seniors Lauren Braman and Dana Moreno each saw time in the loss.

Pack The Stands
Nevada will look to break the program’s home attendance record against No. 15 California Sunday at 1 p.m. The previous attendance record of 795 fans was set during Nevada’s 3-0 win vs. Washington State on Sept. 25, 2005.

-Week Five-

Friday, Sept. 14- Nevada 3, Weber State 2 (OT)

Nevada’s defense stifled Weber State in the opening period, as the Wildcats were unable to record a shot. The Wolf Pack offense struck the first blow in the 17th minute on a goal by junior Chelsea Fricke that was crossed in from a corner kick by sophomore Madison Lorenzen.  Wildcats mid-fielder Chansi Crompton’s unassisted goal in the 62nd minute knotted the game up at 1-1. Weber State followed up the goal with a second five minutes later, taking a 2-1 lead on a goal by Mackenzie Day. Nevada answered back with 17 minutes remaining in the match, as senior Sarah Schmeda received a pass from Chrisalyn Fonte and swiftly touched the ball pass the Weber State goalkeeper to tie the game at 2-2. Sarah Schmeda’s second goal of the night came on a breakaway within the first two minutes of the overtime period to win the match 3-2.

Team Notes

-Senior Sarah Schmeda provided a huge lift for the Pack in the team’s 3-2 overtime win against Weber State. Her two goal performance was recognized by the Mountain West, as the Littleton, Colo., native was named MW Offensive Player of the Week on Sep. 17.

-Three of Nevada’s nine matches this season have gone into an extra period. Nevada is 5-5-4 under Dr. Price in overtime matches.

-Nevada’s Chelsea Fricke started off the season with a bang after missing the majority of last season with an injury. The junior recorded her first goal at Nevada in the Pack’s 2-1 win over Hawai`i. The Dallas, Texas native scored her second goal in Nevada’s 3-2 overtime win against Weber State.

-The team’s third win on the year with the 1-0 victory at San Jose State matched the win total of the 2011 season.

-Nevada’s consecutive wins at TCU and San Jose State was the first for the season. The last time Nevada won consecutive matches was Sept. 16 and 18 during the 2011 season when the Pack defeated Idaho State and Eastern Michigan.

-Nevada’s 1-0 win at TCU improved the program's record against BCS conference opponents to 4-13. The program's previous win came at Oregon during the 2006 season, where Nevada claimed a 2-1 win in Eugene, Ore.

-Sophomore Chrisalyn Fonte has been a force on the offensive end for Nevada. The Union City, Calif. native has scored a goal in five of Nevada’s nine matches this season.

-Senior Lauren Braman has started every game for the fourth straight year, bringing her career total to 69. Braman sits tied at ninth on Nevada’s all time list of career games started.

-Sophomore Madison Lorenzen has dished out an assist on four of Nevada’s 10 goals this season.

-Nevada’s shutout of Hawai`i broke a 15-match streak for the program. The Pack’s last shutout came in a 1-0 win at Utah on Aug. 28, 2011. Nevada has had two shutouts on the year, the last in a 1-0 win at TCU on Sep. 2.

-With 14 letter winners returning, seven of which are starters, the Wolf Pack will look to make an immediate impact in its first year in the Mountain West.

-In 2011 Nevada was 3-16 overall, with a 1-6 conference mark in its last year as a member of the Western Athletic Conference. The Wolf Pack went 2-7 at home, 1-8 on the road and 0-1 at neutral sites, finishing in eighth place.

-Kori Disarufino and Chrisalyn Fonte, who led the team in scoring with three and two goals respectively will be leaned on to provide offensive production. Disarufino and Fonte also led the team in shots attempted with 35 and 23.

-Dr. Melissa "Missy" Price enters her third year as head coach and fifth overall at Nevada.

-Senior Dana Moreno will lead a corps of goalkeepers, playing in 13 games last year where she snagged 45 saves.

-Junior defender Chelsea Fricke returns to action for Nevada after missing the majority of the last season due to injury in which she used a medical redshirt. The Dallas native will look to bolster the Pack’s defensive line.

-The 2012 season will mark the second consecutive year Nevada has had double digit newcomers wear Silver and Blue for the first time with 11 on board this year. Last season Nevada had 13.
