No. 10 Rangers Earn Result Over Adams State

October 17, 2014

Denver, Colorado: The No. 10 Regis University Ranger men’s soccer team added a victory to the win column in Friday afternoon’s defeat of the Adams State Grizzlies (1-11, 0-9 RMAC).  For the second straight match each of the goals was scored by a different Ranger as they defeated the Grizzlies 4-1.  “We were happy with the effort from people, it was not our finest performance but we got the result,” said head coach Tony McCall.

Junior midfielder Ryan Urwiller (Broomfield, Colorado) gave Regis the lead in the 21st minute of play helping the ball find the back of the net from a booming header by senior midfielder Arnthor Kristinsson (Akranes, Iceland).  The play originated from a corner kick taken by senior forward Martin Maybin (Belfast, Northern Ireland) perfectly placing the cross just far enough away from the Adams State goalkeeper.

The Rangers controlled possession of the ball throughout much of the game always looking for opportunities to build into the attack.  Maybin notched his 13th goal of the season in the 30th minute connecting on a cross from junior midfielder Jacob Martinez (Colorado Springs, Colorado).

Kristinsson added another goal to his stat sheet scoring just before halftime to make the score 3-0.  He finished a cross that came in from the left side from sophomore midfielder Luca Rigonati (Carpinteria, California).

The Grizzlies took advantage of a defensive breakdown in the 67th minute when Carlos Castro snuck one in behind Ranger goalkeeper Christian Nicolosi (Highlands Ranch, Colorado).  Freshman forward Sawyer Lincoln (Colorado Springs, Colorado) rounded out the scoring in the 73rd minute when Maybin played him a ball over the top of the Adams State defense.  Lincoln collected the ball and beat his defender to score his fourth goal as a Ranger.

Regis outshot the Grizzlies 21-4 with 11 shots on frame.  Sophomore goalkeeper Connor Adkisson (Federal Way, Washington) earned the win making two saves and allowing no goals in his 45 minutes of action in the first half.  “You have to show everybody respect, I thought we did not come in prepared in the first half but thought the second half we were much more business-like and got the job done,” stated McCall.

The Rangers advance to 10-2 overall and 7-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.  RU is back on their home pitch Sunday, October 19 at 2:30 p.m. when they host Fort Lewis College.  These teams met back on September 28 and Regis produced a 3-1 win.
