Six different players scored as the No. 13 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's soccer team topped St. Catherine University 7-1 Saturday at Fiskum Field in Whitewater. The Warhawks, 9-1, have won eight straight games, including three wins over ranked opponents.
 
Marie Lesperance (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha South) put the Warhawks on the board in the eighth minute scoring off of a combination of passes from Carly Pottle (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) and Mackenzie Serbousek(Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Cedar Rapids Prairie).
 
Six minutes later Brianna Reid (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) scored her seventh goal of the season on a pass from Kaci Schonert (Racine, Wis./Horlick).
 
Schonert notched her second assist of the match when she found Pottle two minutes later to give the Warhawks a 3-0 lead that they carried into halftime.
 
Two and a half minutes into the second half Schonert provided an assist to Reid's 55th career goal, tying the school record set by All-American Emily Gerber who played from 2008-2011.
 
When asked about Reid's accomplishments Head Coach Ryan Quamme stated, "It's pretty special. The growth Bri has shown over the last four years makes it very rewarding. To see a player buy into our program, end up becoming a very good leader, and maturing as a player, makes this even more special."
 
The Warhawks went on to add three more goals in the second half. Devon Polk (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) scored an unassisted goal in the 64th minute, Laura Schultz (Walled Lake, Mich./Walled Lake Central) assisted Anna Tracy (Bartlett, Ill./South Elgin)'s goal in the 86th minute, and Schultz scored in the 89th minute.
 
Sara Klimisch (Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Indian Trail High School and Academy) started in goal, made four saves and gave up no goals in 71 minutes of play to earn the win. Nina Yonan (Skokie, Ill./Niles North)relieved Klimisch for the final 19 minutes of action.
 
Twenty-five different players saw action in the game for UW-W. "Our bench means a lot, and I hope they realize that. They've been working hard. Being able to play so many players keeps us fresh. We don't get through that stretch of those games on the road like that without our depth off the bench," Coach Quamme remarked after the game.
 
The Warhawk defense limited the Wildcats to nine shots in the game, 17 fewer than their average.
 
UW-W is just over the halfway point of the season. With three more home games coming up Coach Quamme noted, "We are happy to be home. We had a really tough stretch the last couple weeks against quality opponents on the road. I think we've matured a lot as a team."
 
Next up for the Warhawks is a visit from Loras College on Wednesday, September 28th at 7:30 p.m. with the Hawk Cup on the line.
