No. 14 Rangers Drop on the Road at Mines
Golden, Colorado: The No. 14 Regis University Ranger men’s soccer team traveled to the Colorado Mines Orediggers (10-6, 8-4 RMAC) on Sunday afternoon looking to bounce back from a 3-1 loss on Friday night at UC-Colorado Springs. The Rangers fell 3-0 to Mines moving them to an overall record of 11-4 and 8-4 in the RMAC.
The first goal of the game was scored early in the 4th minute of play from a through ball that snuck through RU’s defense to put the Rangers immediately down 1-0. Mines found the back of the net again just before halftime in the 44th minute of play to go ahead 2-0.
Regis found more of an offensive rhythm in the second half firing off more shots than in the first half but could never successfully net their first goal. Mines goalkeeper Collin Hall made a crucial save in the 61st minute when senior midfielder Arnthor Kristinsson directed a header towards the goal from a corner kick. That save sparked a counterattack for the Orediggers and they scored the third and final goal of the match just 28 seconds later.
The Rangers were outshot 17-10 with four shots on frame but slightly edged out the corner kick battle with five to Colorado Mines four. Ranger goalkeepers shared minutes with junior Christian Nicolosi (Highlands Ranch, Colorado) starting the match allowing one goal. Sophomore Connor Adkisson (Federal Way, Washington) subbed in at half recording two saves and allowed two goals.
RU hosts their final two regular season games on Wednesday, October 29 against Metro State at 3:30 p.m. and then again on Sunday, November 2 against Colorado Mesa at 2:30 p.m.
