No. 14 Regis Denies Men’s Soccer’s Comeback Bid, 2-1
DENVER – Faced with its first two-goal deficit of the season, Colorado School of Mines men's soccer closed to within one midway through the second half Friday at NSCAA No. 14 Regis, but could not complete the comeback, falling 2-1 to the Rangers in Denver.

Regis (4-1) went ahead 2-0 in the first 22:00 minutes of the non-conference tilt.Arnthor Kristinsson bent in a left-footed curve at 9:28 and Preseason RMAC Player of the Year Martin Maybin followed on a point-blank completion from Jacob Martinez at 21:07.

After generating only two shots in the opening frame, Mines (3-3) found its offensive rhythm in the second 45:00, eventually breaking through in the 64th minute as junior Joe Haines snuck a straight-on try between defenders and off the keeper's glove to right net.

Mines continued to keep the Rangers on their heels down the stretch, earning three corners and five shots across the final 17:35; however, the Orediggers failed to find the equalizer with only one attempt on frame as Regis won its second straight in the series.

Haines finished with two of the team's three shots on goal across four chances, while classmate Richard Garvey added one.

The Rangers were plus-six on shots (16-10), outshooting Mines 5-3 in on-target tries.

Sophomore Collin Hall fell to 3-3 in goal with the loss, denying three shots.

The men conclude their season-long seven-game road swing at 1:30 p.m. on Friday against Colorado Christian at Lakewood Memorial Field in Lakewood.
