No. 17 FIT, Eckerd End in Scoreless Tie
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (Women’s Soccer) – No. 17 Florida Tech dominated time of possession against Eckerd, holding a 29-0 advantage in shots before the Tritons registered their first shot of the game in the 82nd minute. Neither team found a decisive goal, forcing a 0-0 draw on Tuesday at Turley Athletic Complex.
“Today was just one of those games where we had chances and were not able to finish them,” head coach Fidgi Haig said. “At the end of the day it is still a point. We will take it and move on to our next challenge.”
FIT (4-2-1, 0-1-1 SSC) came out firing in the first half. The Panthers recorded 17 shots, eight on goal, by five different players in the first session.
In the second half, FIT recorded 15 more shots. But Eckerd’s (2-2-1, 0-1-1 SSC) Morgan Crescent continued to stay perfect in goal, making four of her 13 saves down the final stretch.
The Panthers recorded five more shots in the overtimes, including a shot by Kelly Whittaker that rang off the post with four seconds remaining in the second overtime. Whittaker finished with a game-high 12 shots.
Junior Carly Hunt also finished with 12 shots, including seven on goal. Freshman Lauren Bolhuis and senior Christina Edwards both recorded four shots.
FIT put 37 shots on the scoreboard, including 13 shots on goal. Eckerd found just two shots, and one on goal in the match.
