October 4, 2017

OSHKOSH, Wis. - Despite outshooting their opponent 26-4, the No. 18 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's soccer team came out on the losing end of a 1-0 result with UW-Oshkosh Wednesday night at J.J. Keller Field. The Warhawks, now 7-2-3 overall and 0-1-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, had won the previous three meetings with the Titans.

UW-W tallied seven shots in the first 45 minutes, two of which were on frame. The first came in the 9th minute when Adria Schueler (Wales, Wis./Mukwonago) tested Titan keeper Jessica Galason, and the second came one minute later when Anna Boyd (De Pere, Wis./De Pere) sent one towards the net. Galason made saves on both attempts.

Shots on goal by Karina Rosales (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) and Marie Lesperance (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha South) in the first four minutes of the second half were stopped by Galason, but the Warhawks persisted. Two more shots in the net three minutes were wide, but the Titans could sense the Warhawks' urgency.

In the 57th minute the Warhawks were whistled for a foul in the penalty box that resulted in a penalty kick opportunity for the Titans. The PK was the first of the season for a Warhawk opponent, and UW-O took advantage, knocking it past Sara Klimisch (Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Indian Trail High School and Academy)for a 1-0 lead.

The Warhawks went on to outshoot the Titans 14-1 over the last 33 minutes, but just could not find the back of the net.

Boyd registered seven of UW-W's shots, while Lesperance and Mackenzie Serbousek (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Cedar Rapids Prairie) added four each.

Klimisch made two saves in the match, but took the loss to move to 5-2-3.

UW-W will return to action on Saturday when they host league opponent UW-Eau Claire in a match at Fiskum Field at 5 p.m.
