Noethe's Gamewinner Leads CSUB Past USF 2-1
BAKERSFIELD, Calif.— Emily Noethe (So., Dallas, Ga., East Paulding HS) scored in the 61st minute to give CSU Bakersfield (1-3) a 2-1 victory over the University of San Francisco (1-1-2) in women’s soccer action Sunday night.
The Dons struck first when Mackenzie Krieser took advantage of a CSUB turnover and broke the seal at the 8:09 mark. Erica Shelton (Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., UC Santa Barbara) tied the match with a long shot that found the top right of the goal.
Noethe scored off a long pass from Sam Peña (Sr., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield HS) for the gamewinner. The Dons pressed over the final 25+ minutes and had a corner kick with 10 seconds remaining, but the CSUB defense was able to turn away USF for the victory.
“I am very please that our first win was through excellent play and (came off a) pair of mature goals,” said CSUB head coach Melissa Phillips. “Its promising to see the way our leaders played and how everyone filled in a role.”
The Roadrunners continue a five-match homestand Friday night when Loyola Marymount travels to Bakersfield for a 7 p.m. start.
